    Lemmy.world is defederated from hexbear, Lemmygrad, and beehaw so maybe try blocking those instances if it’s too much for you

  • I thought that only a delete by the instance admin prevented account migration on Mastodon? That ought to be changed if not. The whole point of mastodon is the freedom to move without losing followers. If your whole following is predicated on the actions of moderators, that’s not healthy for the network

  • If someone gets banned from an instance, they are free to move their account to a new instance and still keep their followers.

    Someone doesn’t just get to break instance rules just because they are a successful author. Attitudes need to change, if you approach the fediverse like corporate social media, you are doing it wrong.

  • If the soldier is pulling the trigger on civilians then yes they are responsible. If they are pulling the trigger against enemy warfighters in an unjust war, then the buck stops at the CiC. It should not be up to individual soldiers on whether a certain operation is just or not.

  • The soldiers duty to refuse to carry out illegal orders such as slaughtering civilians notwithstanding, yes I think volunteering to fight for your country, even in an unjust war, is service.

    The saying goes that the fish rots from the head down. There are stops all down the chain of command that could prevent soldiers from fighting unjust wars, and that’s where the blame should lie.

    Sadly the US military has a lot of corruption and pushing back on a CO or refusing an illegal order can end your career in the military or worse. That doesn’t mean I blame the people at the end of the chain, I blame the people at the head. This includes Obama’s illegal drone strikes on targets in Syria and Yemen and various other atrocities and not just Trumps latests

  • Nintendo offered mail in rebates with proof of purchase back in the day. I have no idea if that applied to OPs story but it wasn’t the store offering the rebate in these cases

    I don’t like a lot of content on here but I maintain my blocklist myself and don’t need an ideologue to big brother it for me. (Even if I were to agree with the ideology)

  • You can just join another instance that is outside the jurisdiction of these laws or run your own instance with closed sign ups since you don’t have to verify your own age (or the age of known friends if you offer access to them)

    The fediverse is inherently resilient to this sort of law, it’s the laws that make platforms liable for the content posted to it, that are more of a concern for the fediverse.
