  • Epic and GOG work on Heroic just fine and I've run two standalone games (Elite Dangerous and ESO) using Lutris with no problems.

  • All you have to do to see it is find a piece of current but generally ill-regarded media and post something negative about it. Then just sit back and watch all the totally real users flooding in to defend it and talk about how people who shit on it are only doing so for weak personal reasons, and it's not that bad they've always kinda liked it etc.

Or just go to any halfway popular sub that talks about a food item that comes in a wide variety of flavors and brands. It's a constant parade of pictures of brands with titles like "Who has tried this stuff and loves it?" or even "I can't stand this stuff," with an army of totally grass-roots posters defending it as "not for everybody but I love it" - and so on and so on.

It's so obnoxious I can barely stand it anymore. Product subs and media subs are just worthless. I still get some traction out of niche gaming and hardware subs but that's about it.

  • For real, all my TVs are Sceptre. They are not easy to find, but they are incredibly reasonably priced and completely dumb perfection.

If people like us make them popular enough, maybe they'll realize this is a lucrative niche market.

  • I drew the line at Windows 10. It was bad enough. 11 was a bridge too far. I basically quit 4 months ago and wiped my last Windows machine today. I just made a post about it!

For anyone on the fence, do it!

  • Meh, I don't think it could work this way. Infinite time without constant novel experience would just devolve into incomprehensible white noise in both action and reaction. Honestly, I think we're already in the infinite simulation and we're either being fed novel experience or we're feeding ourselves novel experience in order to cope. Not sure. Can't be sure. Right now I just wish I could get my truck working.

  • Also, you can "install" things like Discord into a webapp and when you launch it it looks and behaves just like regular old discord, but never makes you wait through those annoying installation screens.

  • I'm not certain I understand... I make a lot of bread too and partly because it's cheap, but also partly because it's awesome. I'm focused on sourdough at the moment, it's been a long trip.

I am unsure of what the "new" pyramid is trying to say, because it says nothing. Very strange, though not, I suppose, coming from the barely literate fuckheads running HHS now.

It sounds like you're struggling pretty hard, good on you you make your own bread. Fresh vegetables and fruit are still fairly reasonable, particularly if you do local farmer's markets. I recently posted about how using dried beans instead of canned is a real money saver (a pound of navy beans is like, $1.20 - and loads of good protein).

I am also quite focused on foraging right now. I hope it doesn't come to it, but if it should, I'd like to be as prepared as possible. Knowing what edible wild plants exist around you is very valuable, and can be a fun hobby for those bent that way.

  • I was in the middle of making a reply like this but yours is better. Closed as duplicate.

  • I'm kind of an in-the-middle tan-mode sort myself. I cut my teeth on UltraEdit back in the day and its default color scheme (circa 2001) is still the scheme I use today, though I've moved wholly to FOSS. I can't do dark, I can't read the code properly. I can't do bright white, it's too stressful.

  • Evangelical Christian people were lied to, if you really want to know the truth. And that’s exactly what happened.

Evangelical Christians are easy to lie to, if you want to know the truth, because they disdain intelligence, preferring their world in which they cosplay magic in fairyland 24/7 without even a tiny hint of self-awareness (because they have none). Given the same choice he would do it again, because he's too cost-sunk in his dumbass roleplaying to do anything different.

  • People like this are what the current slate of Republicanism is breeding, I guess. Nobody asking them for anything and they bust this shit out with no reason other than just trying to be a shithead to get people to react so they can call them snowflakes.

  • Every second I'm near her, its just belittling.

I hope you find your way clear. There is a way, you just have to find it. Take it slow. Determination and focus on a goal can help alleviate depression. This is an excellent step, asking about on the 'net. Everyone has value. Your mom is blinded to the fact (and it is certain) that she too was what we once all were, young, naive and full of unrealized potential. So she found her potential and realized it, but she forgot about it ever being unrealized. And that is on her, not on you. She is not better than you because your potential is as yet unrealized, and she's actively damaging your potential by pretending she is. Ignore it, stay focused and find your way.

Edit: and if you can find professional help that you trust, good. Depression is not just in the mind, it can be physiological as well. You may need to find out, but this will be part of your journey.

  • I gave up red meat, it's not that hard. Honestly, I'm hoping the market will take this opportunity to come up with more decent vegan alternatives. I'd like to give meat up altogether but the products that are out there currently are pricier than red meat, ffs.

  • I'd say it's media saturation. In the back of everyone's minds they know they could make a statement that a whole lot of people will hear about if it were to come to it.

  • Welcome to the era of media that cannot die.

  • Yes, yes I will, well Chromium forks.

Yeah, I'm not going to switch to a Manifest V3 browser because Firefox puts in access to an optional AI agent. If Firefox makes it so you can't turn it off, which I wouldn't think is likely, I might switch to something like Librewolf, but Chromium? No.

  • Not mentioned here but there was some other drug, a tranquilizer called xylazine that was being used to cut fentanyl that I heard was largely to blame.

  • Since you so clearly elucidated it, you may know this is actually a thing called panprotopsychism. I'm fully on board with it but of course, the Internet knows with absolute certainty it's complete and utter bullshit, so ¯(ツ)/¯.

Edit: apparently so does at least one downvoter.
