  • "Ranch" flavor comes basically 100% from salt and MSG. There is a microscopic amount of herbs that make next to no difference. Ask anyone who thinks MSG is bad for you if they have cut out Ranch dressing for some hilarity. (May not apply to non-Americans).

  • I'm not saying they're conscious, because not even fully understanding what consciousness is precludes saying that. But it also precludes saying it's "impossible" they are conscious.

    Consciousness and AGI however, are two different things. I believe my cat is conscious, but it's not even close to being intelligent. AGI is, you know, a thing. I'm quite certain this dude's LLM isn't AGI because if nothing else, it's not "his" LLM. It's based on a black box public model he knows nothing about and which very likely changes frequently on the back end without his knowledge.

    I'm pretty certain we're not going to spend our way out of this. If the answer is not to seize the means of production, then we're gonna have to at least seize the means of oppression. Everything billionaires own in any country that means to be free should be seized.

    This won't happen, of course, until they wreak a lot more havoc, unfortunately the havoc they are wreaking is not laying the groundwork for the countries that host them to be more free.

  • Kind of the point of my comment was that drive size/cost is stagnating despite the massive technical progress in the space. I bought my first 4TB drive in 2020 ($89). Going back to 2015, I was buying 2TB at the same price ($86). Here in 2026, what's the ~same price? 4TB ($99). 8TB is $180.

So I guess my question to you is: what are the nature of your queries? Something some bullshit LLM can't answer? Well by golly, then let's see if we can't answer them here!

  • Namesilo used to be the standard for inexpensive domain registration. They keep raising their rates, however, and now they are expensive compared to the alternatives. Being a registrar takes next to no work. Do not accept expensive registrars. You can safely avoid Namesilo.

  • Well I suspect the quality is not going to be up to your standard, but this is the one I have in my living room, and I think it's perfectly fine. But if you just can't live without 120hz or whatever, then I guess you're stuck.

    Walmart used to have a variety of these, now they're down to one. All my TVs are either 10+ years old or Sceptre and therefore are all dumb. But I don't have a purist bone in my body when it comes to AV stuff.
