  • I can’t really help except by giving you sympathy.

What I would do is check the https://piefed.social/ toolbox.

It is not an add for piefed in any case, but if you go there with a computer browser (for screen size ratio), on the lower right corner there is an "anti-something toolbox" with useful links about various subjects and ways to handle those conversations. If you refresh the page the toolbox will refresh as well.

EDIT: It seems to have disappeared, I don't know why, sorry.

  • As said, most probably Christian heritage. Even in secular countries like France it is forbidden.

To be precise about France, only polygamous weddings are forbidden but being polygamous without being wedded is not illegal. I think it has historically something to do with central Africa immigration from the former colonies.

You could migrate to France and ask for family reunion to have your wife and kids legally come, but I guess they wanted to put some limits so it was decided that wedding means one partner only. Those laws were made by old right wing parties so it is kind of logical that they wanted to limit African immigration to 2 adults + kids instead of 4 adults + kids.

Would it be frowned upon? Maybe, mostly by older folks and more traditional peoples but the larger part of the population would just not care. The problem is with legal status, without a wedding you can have child care and heritage problems in case of death.

  • Maybe, I tend to avoid big instances and news. I also heard stuff about news.world mod so I’m not surprised about what you said.

But I believe it is one dude on one community on one instance, there are still plenty of news community outside of world, ml and (former) grad so they are easy to avoid.

And it doesn’t change the fact that free speech != spewing hate so if some are looking for that kind of freedom, well, they can look elsewhere.

  • You’re welcome, I’ll always be there to not help.

  • Your freedom stops where other peoples freedom start.

All instances, except tankie ones, have freedom of speech.

Definition varies for example between Europe and US. In Europe you have freedom FROM, in the US it’s more like freedom TO.

Freedom TO can be dangerous as some peoples think that it means they are allowed to say hateful and harmful things. Hurting others is not freedom of speech, it’s just being the shit stain on humanity toilet paper roll and you won’t have that on lemmy. Unless by creating your own no-rules instance that will get defederated by everyone.

But as long as you are not insulting and harming people, yeah you have freedom of speech everywhere, just the normal sane amount of freedom.

  • Working from Friday till Monday, it’s quite the tradition tho as it is cool to be working the ops room at that time. Not much to do and plenty of cash to make as it counts as 3 Sundays (Friday and Monday are bank holidays, Sunday is well… a Sunday)

  • Amazon used to not deliver in my country so we developed our own, with 24h free delivery, blackjack and hookers.

Now that Amazon figured out the custom taxes for us, it is too late as we have our own local alternative.

  • I discovered the expression "tiki bar" a year ago after many decades of being alive. English not being my native language is an excuse but it is still strange to not know this word for so long 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Also, remember IWDWYT !stopdrinking@lemmy.world

  • He is the bearded wizard we need.

  • a lot of savings

Savings for who? If nothing is changed and manufacturers (and retailers) doesn’t make any kind of commercial gesture, the only ones paying more are the American consumers.

So moving the manufacture would be a saving for every Joe and Jane in the US, not Nintendo nor the ROTW.

Not moving the manufacture might be a loss of % in their US consumer base as prices will be too high there, but is it big enough to justify the enormous costs needed to move an entire industry workflow?

I don’t think so, specially when there is so many instability in the US politic, if you move to an other country at great cost and 2 weeks later a new tariff is declared (because why not), you moved everything for no reason but still lost your investment.

My belief is that no industry nor country will adapt, they will just increase the US market prices and keep on living like before with the ROTW. The only ones to suffer will be the American citizens and I’m sorry for them, but there is an all planet to trade with.

  • That would cost them enormous amounts of cash and hours of work just for one market.

There’s no point, the best option is just to ignore the US and let them pay more than the rest of the world, even if that means fewer sales.

  • Welcome fellow cheese lover. If you’re from where I guess you’re from, we have a few communities for our big plus country.

Most of normal French speaking in on the jlailu instance, example the not very active !suisse@jlai.lu.

I think there are some English Switzerland communities and I don’t know about German, they are probably linked with the main German instance (like we are on jlailu with the rest of francophonie).

And as IRL, Italian speaking part does not exist 🤷🏻‍♂️

But you’ll find plenty of cool communities not related to a country or language. My favourite type are the ones where you can speak about whatever you want.

Also as a nice to know, you can blacklist keywords on several apps (and communities, peoples or instances), that way you can avoid the US politics spam around news communities.

It takes a little while to craft your perfect lemmy experience, but once done it’s a cool place!

  • Dude?

  • Don’t worry OP, they let me be an air traffic controller and my best mate an airline pilot.

Bad software or not, you’re fucked anyway.

  • You can open or replace this fake ceiling square by square as behind it you may find some electrical stuff that sometimes needs to be repaired. It’s also probably cheaper.

It’s kind of the same as the floor in data centers. If you’ve been in one, the floor is a fake floor made of square sort of plastic tiles. Below that you have the cold air that goes into the servers, AC and DC power, fire and water detectors, cables road etc. You need an easy access to those fake floors or ceiling for maintenance.

  • Oh no what the fork?

  • I work in ATC and I'm a gamer. We do recruit some gamers for their competences that are 2000% beneficial to the job, like 3D space representation, stress resistance, quick eye to hand movement and quick thinking (think fast RTS or MOBA for example).

But honestly I still find it hard to convince management into studying gaming benefits to ATC.

Most of them still have the boomer reaction, aka:

"bUt ThEy'Ll ThInK RaDaR iS a ViDeO GaMe!!! ThEy WoNt TaKe iT SeRiOuSlY"

  • Between 15 to maybe 30h a week.

Working shifts in ATC at 80% so it is always different depending on the roastering office, some weeks can be 4 days of work, other could be 5 days off.

I believe it is officially 28h a week (14 days of 8h a month) but unofficially a working day is around 5 to 6 hours, not 8 (paid pause included, + unlimited sick days + minimum 6 weeks paid vacation. Hooray Europe!)
