  • When offered a new food, you can take it or not.

Since you seem to identify as one who would CHOOSE not to eat it, explaining why you MAKE THAT CHOICE is probably more what they were looking for, as opposed to cryptic sarcasm that leaves us with more questions than answers.

  • Hey now. Those were for his wife since he has to spend so much time on the road. Can't blame a man for being a considerate husband!

  • I really can't think of any that weren't worth the effort. Some took more effort than others, but even if they don't make me any money, I don't regret learning then.

  • You're not supposed to soak them in your mouth overnight!

  • I think I get what you're saying. Those are the talks where the conversation leads you thinking about something you never thought before, or thinking about it in a whole new way.

You want to have one of those conversations because the sensation of discovery feels good. It's like a workout for your brain and you feel pumped up and stronger afterwards!

The problem is, you can't really force it. Even if you go down the topics that usually get you there, you're just regurgitating things that have already been said.

You just have to have lots of conversations with lots of different people and eventually you'll fall into a discussion that really sucks you in and works those neurons.

I totally get it and am willing to have some exploratory discussions with anyone who's interested!

  • No. You got it all backwards.

That's the world where you can't even pour a bowl a cereal without a cartoon character trying to steal it!

  • Not really. It sure can feel like it when you run into one, but people have been shit at everything since forever.

  • Are you telling me after all this time, that Slipknot DIDN'T write a song about the oppression in the Chiquita banana Republic?

  • Ah, but to be disappointed, you must first have expectations.

Can't be disappointed by something you've never paid attention to!

  • Not a single one of them, because I never once Experienced Joe Rogan.

  • Right?! It's like if you don't agree with overseas sweatshops, would your plan to fight the system involve going into the factory and punching every sweat shop worker in the face?

"They won't try to change the system if we continue to support it by not making them suffer a little bit!"

  • Ethically rejecting the system means not participating in it at all, not taking advantage of the parts you like and refusing the part that costs more money.

  • I probably would be. But I don't understand the reasoning behind "There's a slight chance that someone might steal this money, so I probably shouldn't even try to give it to them."

Should we stop paying out pensions because retirees are often targeted by phone scammers?

  • Of course, this only applies in the US where servers make half of minimum wage+tips.

In that moment, they are working for you, and knowing that they don't make an hourly living wage and saying someone else should pay them is the same as Walmart telling it's employees they should apply for assistance if they can't afford groceries. "Want more money? Talk to the government about it!"

I'll sign anything that would change the system! I think it sucks too! But when you FORCE the server to join your protest by working for YOU for FREE, you're not changing the system, you're not doing them any favors, you're being a cheap ass and trying to justify it. Can't afford the tip? Order take out.

  • It's a corporate chain. The manager has very little control over what's on those receipts.

  • So, the reason the math is off, is because they calculated the percentages before discounts.

See that free appetizer on there? It was part of your total when they did the math. Which seems less shady when you remember the tip goes to your server, who did the same amount of work, no matter how much of a discount you received.

  • Remember kids, when you don't tip, it makes you just another one of the owning class that withholds wages from honest workers!

  • Yes, but it's probably the most viscous goo.

  • What do you mean? Everybody knows the barbarians were just sitting around waiting to be civilized.
