There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

  • Sometimes I look at it and think, huh, that's right? Then I look a bit more and it looks even more wrong. So I check it online, yep, it's right.

  • I was hoping that there was a metric baseline for this paper size, but it still bugs me that the dimensions aren't "even". 297mm? That's no better than 8 1/2 inches.

  • For one, there's more than hamburger demand which is what this import is about. Higher grade cuts which from what I understand is what a large part of US beef is used for. But really second is the safety nets for all agriculture from the government. They can fail totally (which again, they won't) and they'll get welfare help. Like the rest of the public should be getting, but apparently would take away from the wealthy and the warhawks is too costly.

  • The best part is that it's not going to hurt those farmers at all. What it will affect is the quality of beef for the average consumer, since they're probably getting much lower grade or even rejected meat other countries don't want. So still getting faces eaten, but it's not the farmers. If you want an example of very thorough welfare, look at agriculture. Yet they're the loudest shouting.

  • My wife moved from WordPerfect (pre-Corel) years ago to Word strictly because all her clients were using Word and she got tired of converting things to work on their machine, especially when printing it out. Not because it was a better choice. This is Microsoft's only power, dominating the market. Brilliant business strategy, I'll give them that. Why they don't use it to be better at the same time baffles me.

  • Not yet. Know better than to try and do it myself. Also know you rarely get rich writing, it should be to tell the story first.

  • I have a scifi novel. It's circling right now in the first revision stage, but the story itself is complete and I feel good about it. Even filed for copyright. Now if I can just get back to work on it (rewriting sucks).

  • Took me decades to break out of the "on the bus but can't get to the front to get off at my stop". Now I'll probably have a relapse thanks to this reminder. But the late/missed class, those dreams suck.

  • There are numerous versions of "A Boring Dystopia" in instances but I guess some of this isn't boring.

  • But the Halo series was the worst. The opening scene had me, I will admit. It was bad ass to see it in real life like that, being part of some humans who had no chance in hell of survival. But the storyline from there... so stupid.

  • The TV series for Highlander was good. Had a few great scenes and characters. Think of it as an alternate timeline going a different direction, playing with the ideas the movie introduced on how immortality isn't such a great thing.

  • I don't remember the timeline, but perhaps they jumped on the bandwagon while LotR was still fresh in everyone's mind, thinking they'd get rights to touch other Tolkien sources, and then were told "hell no" so had to use a few scraps and make it up as they went.

  • And I hope we never, ever see anyone tackle The Silmarillion. Simply because, there will be so much improvised fluff in that would-be film, that it'd make the Hobbit films blush.

    Just like trying to make a sequel to Highlander. Imagine that. The film had a hard ending, there's no place for it to go from there.
