  • The wealthy? Not sure what you’re alluding to, but you’d have to add a lot of other places to the list the wealthy have priced normal people out of. Everything from Texas ranches to the castles on Long Island.

  • An incredibly beautiful area. Used to go there as a kid 30+ years ago. It was a relative backwater, not super popular except as a stop for people visiting the Tetons.

    Full of hundred-millionaires now. Like all the spaces taken over in Montana by the wealthy, or the mountain towns in Colorado like Aspen and Breckenridge. Commoners can fuck off.

Citing as-yet undefined needs of an AVERAGE consumer while completely disregarding that the people on Lemmy are far more tech-focused and that the average tech level of a consumer is that they can’t even turn the computer off and on again. Almost nobody needs such massive storage, it’s a very niche need. The vast majority would never run out with 1TB. I’ve got 3TB and a huge collection of music, movies and photos I’ve backed up and there’s still room to go. The clowns disagreeing with you are running an -arr stack and thinking “I could fill that…”

    Completely unnecessary for you to preemptively assume someone would choose a “crappy” backup from a retail store when in fact such a backup would still likely have saved the day, and any half-decent dev should at least have some kind of RAID backup on site and better yet an offsite one too.

    The flaw was not having any backup, not your straw man of a poor quality choice.

  • I dig into my (organized) box of cables 2-3x a year. I still have functional older equipment that still sees occasional use.

    Pro tip: go through the box and get rid of the duplicates of older items. No need to have 3 IDE ribbon cables, 4 SATA to 4-pin power adapters, or two parallel port cables.

  • If I understand it right it’s basically polishing your external appearance to a high degree. Hair, skincare, etc… but I’ve seen it mostly used to describe people using the technique transactionally. Like incels doing it with the expectation that doing so will result in a girl appearing for them.
