  • Go to a laundromat and use their machines or a wash/dry/fold service.

    Alternative:

If you’re truly desperate to get away from public machines you can get standalone mini-washing machines that take up little room, and just hang-dry clothing on a collapsible clothes dryer. The washing machine can be sold to recoup some of the costs when you move. At $5-$8 wash load and 25¢/5 min dryer a load around me 20 loads would pay for a mini-machine. You can do laundry at your convenience, at home, and for cheaper as the machine sorta pays for itself in saved $.

  • But the grid can’t handle EV or the “pollution” they create.

  • Please spell and punctuate correctly, and don’t use “common use” as an excuse to hide your egotistical unwillingness to learn.

  • It’s right there, friend.

25,000lb. Reading the article it says “more than 25,000 lb”.

We should assume they used a highly efficient airfoil that can maintain the most efficient possible cruise for the demonstration aircraft probably at L/D max if they’e looking for time aloft, so I doubt it’s even worth considering top speed or ceiling. It would be interesting to know what NACA profile they used and what the top speed characteristics would be.

Edit: looks like a Vne of 140 Kias. This is not a fast aircraft. Also a minimal useful load. If you make a couple clicks through to the site of the test it’ll give you more info.

  • While knowledge like that is deprecated, the foundational skills and problem-solving it gave you are still very valuable. Modern systems are still built upon old roads, so people with this base level of knowledge have a far easier time sorting out what fixes are needed. Like being an old mechanic that diagnoses a car issue almost immediately because they can hear the issue without hooking up a digital diagnostic, they already know what to look for.

I miss older computers, lol. 2000-2010-ish was the golden era.

  • Sorry the aviation route didn’t work out. The two hardest ratings (IMO) are the initial private and then the IFR license. The former is learning everything about aircraft and flying, but IFR is learning to fly all over again. If you get those two everything else just feels like an add-on.

  • The vast majority of higher math and some industry-related chart interpretation as far as aviation goes.

I guess I’m probably older than 95% of the people here, so all the “spaghetti” charts we had to figure out, the actual trigonometry used to calculate wind correction angles, all of the math used to calculate EPR, thrust, and Mach speeds. Instruction in these calculations was very demanding and unforgiving. Then it all pretty much became useless as I followed the leading edge of software development and electronics moving into the cockpit. So I learned it all only to have it disappear within a few years.

  • I did my best to find any technical data about the flight. Couldn’t find any actual numbers. FWIW it’s not intended to be a standalone method of powering the aircraft for commercial use; they plan on making it a hybrid, which makes far more sense as far as range and payload are concerned. Best guess a 25000 lb aircraft like this will probably cruise around 120-150Kt at a nice, slow, efficient airspeed for a test like this. So maybe a 40-50 mile flight because “air time” probably started as soon as they lifted off.

  • At what airspeed?

  • I’ll declare myself President of the United States.

Difference is I’d actually show up and do a better job.

  • We have one nice kitty and one idiot. The window slides around a bit.

  • I said this was exactly what was going to happen years ago. Companies and developers were going to use AI as a barrier between themselves and being sued because they won’t be held responsible for what their creation says.

  • Keep moving the goalposts so YT can just keep more of the ad money for themselves and the line moving up. More enshittification, nothing new is created but the service gets worse in the name of profitability.

  • Yeah, but you knew to stay away from those idiots and they kept to themselves. Now they exist either because they believe it or because clicks and have a megaphone.

  • Trump always lies about his accomplishments. He never lies about what he wants to do.

  • Gotta love that a fictional character created by a transphobe carries more weight and concern than the further destruction of our biosphere.

  • Some people don’t work well with the conditions set by others, or work well with others at all. They want a human, but can’t make it happen. So a robot that doesn’t say no, as creepy as that is, will be what some demand. A self-driven device like a fleshlight isn’t going to fit their desire.

  • A set of nice tools, keys to a cool car you’ll have to puzzle out, and a 4080ti card.

  • Because he tells the truth and doesn’t stop telling the truth. So now he gets to be sent to the gulag.
