I can be controversial or annoying because I always require proof and facts for whatever people are saying/claiming. This has gotten me into a lot of heated debates, even got myself banned from "YouShouldKnow" for saying I need more proof of Israeli's genocide (that was long ago, got more proof and changed my mind). If I do not agree on some subjectively obvious topic, please do not assume I'm being unfriendly, evil or a troll. I do try my best to approach any subject with neutral and open mind. Just call me autistic with OCD

  • I have no clue why my computer is inefficient with 7z, but I did my own benchmarking and realized the compressing and uncompressing speeds between 7z and rar were night and day. Ie. To extract 4gb, for winrar it took around 6 seconds. For 7z, it was around 30.

  • "That's not true"

"But not true only if you use non-mainstream transaction method that was not part of the original design and is only supported by selected cryptos, meaning not universal"

    K

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's nice that things are improving, but it's safe to say that things will improve for AI too (energy-wise), hella lot of people now working on optimization and it looks very promising, even by just splitting large models into many smaller ones by topic

  • Ypu know what I don't hear on lemmy? People complaining that crypto world consumes more energy than AI world and one of those is far more useless in grand scheme of things.

So how comes it is A issue for AI, but everyone seemingly has forgotten about crypto?

Last I heard, securing one transaction on chain is equalivent to powering US household for many days (feel free to fact check). In comparison, generating LLM text for entire hour on your PC is pretty much the same as gaming for two hours (very approx., your gpu is unlikely at 100% load), which means gaming world is far more destructive energy wise. Are you getting triggered yet?

  • Oooh, so that's why apocalyptic movies are almost always only US oriented

  • Temporarily

  • By this logic, Holocaust in Germany didn't happen as it's illegal there to deny it. I get your point, but it's flawed

  • Watched Baywatch yesterday. This is what it felt like. Are those humans even real? Some even looked like they have eye implants

  • Pardon my short attention span

  • I wonder if squatting while lifting weights (gym) is also a speedrun to bad knees, or whether that actually does improvements

  • If side effects are not death, surely they are worth it for many, so cancellation seems weird

  • I'm using boost and boost for lemmy tells me I have 5 new replies/messages. Unfortunately, they're not there, so I assume a mod or user itself deleted the comment before I could read it, but the unread messages number never went down

  • I don't understand what point are you trying to make. Yes, AI, and everything else artificial is man made, I never said it was not. Is it anywhere good as the human intelligence? No, I was also clear about that, so what are you arguing right now? The original argument was whether LLM counts as AI (and existence of AI itself), and by every definition, it does.

  • Why is it so hard for you to understand word "artificial"? It seems like you even avoid it. Just like artificial everything, especially weed and flavours, it's not the real thing, and was never meant to be the real thing, and yet you're essentially an old man yelling at cloud because something is artificial and does not act like the real human intelligence

  • I genuinely do not understand these very obviously biased comments. By the very definition of AI, we have had it for decades, and suddenly people say we don't have it? I don't get it. Do you hate LLMs so much you want to change the entire definition for AI (and move it under AGI or something)? This feels unhinged, disconnected from reality, biases so strong it looks like delusions

  • So isn't it a good thing these companies are trying to make it not suck?

  • And the thing I do on VR 99% of the time (gaming) wasn't even mentioned. Interesting

  • Why do you people hate VR?
