I can be controversial or annoying because I always require proof and facts for whatever people are saying/claiming. This has gotten me into a lot of heated debates, even got myself banned from "YouShouldKnow" for saying I need more proof of Israeli's genocide (that was long ago, got more proof and changed my mind). If I do not agree on some subjectively obvious topic, please do not assume I'm being unfriendly, evil or a troll. I do try my best to approach any subject with neutral and open mind. Just call me autistic with OCD

  • Look up Red Star OS. You can download an older ISO somewhere

  • No, but when drug abuse is not a problem in the first place, UBI should not make it a thing. Use your common sense. I'm talking about places where you see entire sidewalks stretching miles long with drug addicts. Do you honestly believe giving them money will make them go "oh, drugs bad, maybe I should work".. wat indeed.

  • Finland. Lol. I live next to it, you gotta understand that the people have a vastly different mindset than in many other places. Hence it being the happiest country on earth. You also gotta understand that people who are using lemmy are likely not the risk people, but everyone loves to base reality on their own subjectivity.

Repeat the same experiment in some poorer US state.

  • I don't trust UBI because I don't trust the average person to manage their free time and money carefully. This just feels like a road to boredom, followed by doing stupid shit, including drugs.

Anyone who have taken a month+ old vacation probably knows what I'm talking about. There comes a point where you just (unintentionally) start degrading yourself because there is no purpose in your life, whether by playing videogames all day or substance abuse

It's even worse when you realize most homeless have psychological or physical problems that made them homeless in the first place, and throwing money at them is likely not going to extend their lives if you know what I meant, or fix said problems.

  • I used to root every phone, but by 2025 I've given up. Hard to unlock bootloaders, random apps (especially banking) thinking you will get hacked and stops working, the entire community around rooting and mods is like 10% of what it used to me, hardly any modern phone still gets custom roms, etc.. Recently saw some statistic about custom roms - on average, around 50 phones 5-8 years ago had support for custom roms. By 2025, that number has fallen to 4.

  • That's actually a thing, but I'm not entirely sure in which cases. Probably only for services and not apps, but I've done that myself where deleting a file was impossible, but renaming it and deleting it worked.

  • You don't succesfully run big corporations by having high moral standarts, this was never an argument. Argument was about what makes businessman a good business man, and one major thing is seizing opportunities and "playing" important people like Trump. I don't think he's anywhere as (morally) bad as Steve Jobs was, but he's doing his job as expected.

  • Alternate take: Tim is a businessman doing what's best for Apple and he personally might not support Trump, but we will likely never know.

  • They all look like from same brand that probably wants to have a 500% profit margins from reporpusing sugar

  • Another common misconception is that those with thicker beards have more testosterone than people with thinner beards. Even though testosterone does play a role in the growth of facial hair, low testosterone is rarely the cause of sparse facial hair growth.2

Thia myth has been wandering around for too long. The two people I know with extreme testasterone levels have no beard growth

  • Huh? No, but if someone asked me to smile for camera or do something for a quick payout, I would not see myself as being exploited, but rather we both getting something out of this deal. I don't understand what does lemmy see so wrong with this

  • But how did he exploit the poor? By giving them money for content? Is that what you call exploitation? Wait till you find out what "job" is

  • This is the question I see everywhere, and it always ends with no one giving good arguments.
