  • Depends, of course. I'm not personally wildly ambitious about work so that would be fine with me. If no raise though, that money will not be enough in 15 years. So it would need to come with raises to meet inflation at least.

Retirement at 62 would be a big upgrade from what I expect to be able to do, but I did raise a lot of kids.

  • People like to get high. Normal thing to enjoy mind altering substances, despite the best efforts of abolitionists.

  • Absolutely for the taste. I don't bother with alcoholic drinks unless they are delicious. Water is a lovely accompaniment to any food. But yes a wine that aligns with the food can make both more than the sum of the parts, and liquors can make cocktails amazing & complex tasting instead of just being fruit punch or soda.

I do like a light buzz for a short time -any more than that I don't enjoy.

  • I don't love big shows but there are some concerts I missed at the Ritz here, that I would have liked to be at.

Kinky, I missed that one because it was my kid's favorite band and I didn't know it was an all ages show. Lady Gaga, and Nine Inch Nails I am so sorry I didn't get to see them at the small venue on their way up.

Those stadium and arena shows, nope, none of them. My mom saw Elvis in a school basketball gym - I always thought that was cool.

  • I did see Nirvana on their first tour when they made it all the way down here. It was a good time but I don't really remember it as transcendent. There were fewer than 50 people there! In a local bar. I did get to meet them, they came all the way across the country in a little white van.

  • Ha! How long are you planning to be old? That is insane. If you are old at 40 you could be old for over half your life!

I am near 60. I bike to work, work over 40 hours a week, do yoga 4 days a week, lift twice a week. Definitely slower, can't run but not really old yet, as far as I can tell. I think very old is over 75 usually - that's when people start to feel like they have lived long, and start really seeing people they know die of old age.

And if I am going to live to 90, as the statistics seem to think, I can't really be OLD until I am like 80.

  • The long arm of the paw!

  • I really have to recommend the Retin-A. It helped me, my husband , our kids, my siblings, coworkers, I was so sure I'd go straight from acne to wrinkles, my skin was so bad and was reactionary, acne then adult acne then rosacea and reactions to every chemical sunscreen & no genetic advantage (my mom had bad skin) but that Tretinoin turned things around, I have such good skin now in my late 50s that people at work ask what my routine is. Yes multiple people. I do have a routine but sure 90% of my improvement came from Retin-A and finally finding sunscreens that didn't cause irritation.

  • Looking at late 20s as old blows my mind. I looked at a genealogy site and so many of my ancestresses married in their late 20s. I was surprised by that but apparently it's never been uncommon. My mom too, she married around age 30.

  • I never liked "dating" at all, my two long relationships grew from sexual hookups. Going out with someone with an intent to grow it just bothers me, how in the world can you know? Just have fun and something will stick.

Worst part is breakup or even worse, death. The end is the worst part, even if it's gotten so bad you need it to end.

  • If you have cottage industry laws (where I live if you are a small producer selling locally you aren't subject to the same regulations as a bigger producer) you could also think about making soap from the goat milk, people seem to be successful with that here. Candles from beeswax too.

It's fine to make a living. As my midwife said, you need to value your own knowledge and labor fairly, as you would for someone else.

  • Fennel, it grows well for me and is a premium crop, and maybe Stokes Purple sweet potatoes and okra.

But really, fennel because it is reasonably well compensated and the only thing I grow the bugs ignore. Hong Tsoi is vigorous for me but doesn't cost as much.

If you have room for animals, figure out what people will pay for and raise those. I have no idea on that.

  • More males are conceived, but more are miscarried, more are stillbirths, more die in childhood, young adulthood and middle age, and by the time you are my age there are more women than men. I think some of that is XX conferring resistance to some genetic diseases though.

  • Tretinoin keeps my skin clear. Retin-A cream.

Unless it's an allergy, Retin-A is the way.

Acne around mouth and chin can be hormonal too. But even in that case, the tretinoin helps.

  • Very occasionally I look at reddit. Not so much for the local community (though it's very busy on reddit and dead here I was ok giving it up) but because occasionally people respond so late to posts I made. I was on there for about 16 years before leaving for here, mostly because the scale of reddit just got inhuman.

  • Raw tuna is great. Or cooked only on the outside edge is also so good.

  • Death is generally an ugly business, and I am indifferent, alone or attended is ok. Just want you to know that finding a dead loved one is also traumatic, that happened to me. If people love you they will be sad when you die whether they are there for you or not. So if they want to help you at the end, I'd say let them.

  • We went once to a very expensive restaurant (by our standards) the food, no, I am a good cook so restaurant food doesn't impress me. The reason it was expensive was small seating area, only 25 people at a time and that also was not great because they had only one server to do everything.

Was it good? Yes. Was it worth it? No.

A different time we went to a different expensive but not SO expensive restaurant here and that was better. The server brought us each plate one at a time to share, made recommendations, sort of hung out in the least annoying way possible, and the food was local and creative. That one I would say was worth it.

Individual item? Probably wine with my rich brother in law. I've not enough of a palate to say much, but OTOH I don't really like wine enough to like bad wine, and since I wasn't paying, 100% worth it.
