Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.

  • George Orwell

  • You can say anything on Lemmy. It's about how long it stays up.

  • That's a fair point

  • At least when it comes to women I don't really have desire to have sex with someone I'm not in a romantic relationship with. I've turned down sexual advances from women in the past because they've been ones I've only just met. With guys it's pretty much the opposite - I have some "cruising" experiences where I've played with guys I don't even know.

I don't think I fall in love with women that easily either. It takes time. The few crushes I've had have all been women I've simply found really attractive. I wouldn't call that love.

  • At least my list of content filters keeps growing every day so more and more threads gets hidden. There's not really much content here for people who are not into politics or rage inducing news articles. Sometimes I wonder why I even keep coming back here.

  • I never memorized those. We had a of the most common phone numbers on the wall next to the phone. Birthdays I didn't need to remember either because the date was in the invitation card.

Navigation is something I'm way worse than my dad for example, I'll give you that. I'll rely on GPS even when I know how to get to my destination because I always tend to drive the same routes and sometimes there is a much shorter one that I didn't even think of.

  • It may very well all be fake and you're living in a simulation.

That doesn't matter though. It doesn't change anything. That simulation is all you've got so you either play along or you end it for yourself. The only thing that is undeniable is consciousness - the fact of experience. That it feels like something to be. Any story about your existence that you add on top of that is just thinking. It's appereances in consciousness.

  • Quite a homogenous user base with incredibly predictable reactions and views on world events, and the feed is basically just US politics and other news articles designed to make people angry or reinforce their pre-existing beliefs. This simply isn’t a fun place to be. The so-called “regrettable minutes” make up a really high percentage of the total time spent here. And that’s even after I’ve blocked virtually all of the worst communities and users, as well as built a long list of content filters based on keywords. I just have no desire to recommend anyone come here, since I’d consider that bad advice. This is a perfect example of what’s wrong with social media. Reddit’s nowhere near perfect either, but I was much less unhappy there.

  • I don't. Even I don't like it here. I'm just a man of principle so I'm not going back to Reddit so this'll have to do.

  • For a layperson, philosophy doesn’t have an obvious practical application. They think philosophers just sit around pondering esoteric topics and can’t imagine why anyone would pay them for it.

  • I suggest that in the future you save the condescension for the end, not the start, if you want the recipient to actually finish reading your message.

  • Why do you assume that the person advocating to not be an asshole wouldn't be fun at parties?

  • You can express your views about these people in a dispassionate manner as well. It’s not a choice between being a dick about it or agreeing with them. Nothing good comes from passive aggression. You’d probably consider that toxic too if it were directed at you or your opinions.

  • Why do you need to? Arent there enough assholes already?

  • I don't disagree but what's also true is that some products are already as good as they can get and no longer need innovation. I know this is a bold claim but I'd argue that my dumb fridge without screen or internet connection keeps my food just as cool as the latest smart fridge.

  • Good. If your fridge is connected to the internet you deserve to be served ads.

  • I say wether, not whether, and anyways, not anyway. I also never remember how to write thorought.

  • You can block bullies. They can continue to waste their time writing mean messages but those will never reach you.

  • Yeah, I have nothing against masturbation, it's the porn that's the issue for me. I have no desire for sex and I struggle to find normal women attractive. Sex is such an essential part of romantic relationships that I have to work this out if I ever want to succeed in one. I'm not sure I can moderate it. I just have to try and quit it entirely and hopefully there comes a day that I don't even miss it.

  • I have no issue with this whatsoever. I block people so that I don't need to see their posts, not that they couldn't see mine. If you don't want others reading what you post online, then don't post online.
