  • Every dog I've encountered that was bought has been a great dog. All but one were extremely healthy and all were well behaved and very social.

    Every shelter/stray dog I've encountered have had some trauma or hangup that made they way more trouble than I was willing to deal with. Current displeasure has been a "free to a happy home" that my parents got. This dog dislikes any guy with a voice deeper than Richard Simmons and if you're said guy and wearing a hat she's going to get bite-y.

    Every cat I've ever known has been some form of asshole. Quite a few have been the type I approve of and enjoy. It hasn't mattered how they were acquired.

  • It's perfectly fine to have an à la carte political viewpoint. Take a little bit from each political archetype that you enjoy and build your own. So be someone with a few conservative values who also really likes a liberal sex life.

  • No, what you are is a person who gets triggered by words like "nerd" or "geek". Words that have been colloquially accepted, even by those that fall into the groups. Your insistence that not be used because you believe it to be derogatory stems more from the fact that you don't like the perceived judgment that reflects on you because of the person that you're attracted to. The simple fixes you just stop caring that certain people use that word in a derogatory sense and instead embrace the term as endearing.

  • Personally, maintaining eye contact during a conversation shows me that you're actively paying attention and processing what I'm saying. I mean you might not actually be doing that, but I at least feel you are. And it's a good sign. When I have some Alpha at work explain that bit about how their generation views that level of eye contact I audibly scoffed.

  • Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy a good read every now and again, but when I discovered indie films as a teenager I was hooked. Not to mention I was a classic "nerd" who liked comic books, Farscape, and BSG at a time before liking those things hit the mainstream.

  • Ok, I see what you mean. Counterpoint: how could/would anyone? If someone wanted to have "faith" enough they could feasibly handwave away anything that didn't jive with what they wanted the past to be. And in a situation where cross referencing would be nigh on impossible? I mean....I've got nothing. "Trust me bro."

  • Like others, I question the ability to delete a book. And while a regime would be able to change digital literature easily, and educational literature like school books being a close second; changing a book in someone's storage unit is a lot harder.

    It also handwaves away the other ways we keep history as well. Would people's family photo albums be deleted? What about a great grandma's diary? In some rural areas the family bible has some insanely well kept family records.
