  • It's just a group of angry people is all I can tell.

My post was https://lemmy.world/post/48179739 if you can access it. The community creator banned me and removed it.

No clue how the block buttons are set up. But I don't see that community going anywhere and I don't view the everything feed.

Listen up, folks. We all know Linux sucks. It’s a fact. But I did some digging, and the conspiracy goes way deeper than just some neckbeard's broken desktop environment.

It turns out Linux has infected literally everything. And since Linux sucks, by transitive property, the entire modern world sucks and we need to stop using all of it immediately.

If you are a true Linux hater, it is time to walk the walk. Here is the hit list of things we need to boycott starting today:

    1. The Internet

Yep, turn off your router. The Internet runs on Linux. The vast majority of the world’s web servers, DNS servers, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) are powered by Linux. Every time you open a webpage, you are validating Linus Torvalds. If you’re reading this post right now, you are part of the problem. Smash your modem. It sucks.

    2. Smartphones (Yes, even yours)

Are you reading this on an Android? Congratulations, you are carrying a modified Linux kernel in your pocket. It sucks. Oh, you have an iPhone? Well, the massive server farms that Apple uses to sync your iCloud data, send your iMessages, and process your Apple Pay run on—you guessed it—Linux. Throw your phone in a lake.

    3. Entertainment and Streaming

Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube: Their massive backend streaming infrastructure? All Linux. Smart TVs: Most of them run on Linux-based firmware. If you want to watch a movie, go outside and act it out with puppets. Digital entertainment is ruined.

    4. Space Exploration

NASA sent the Ingenuity helicopter to Mars, and it was powered by a Linux distribution. Space sucks now. SpaceX rockets? Linux. We can’t even leave the planet to get away from it.

    5. High-Speed Rail and Air Travel

Commercial aviation routing systems, air traffic control data feeds, and international bullet train networks rely heavily on Linux for uptime and reliability. If you want to travel, you better buy a horse. (Just make sure the horse hasn't been microchipped by a vet using a Linux database).

    6. The Entire Global Economy

The New York Stock Exchange, the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and virtually all major banking backends run on Linux because they need "99.999% uptime." You know what else has 99.999% uptime? Garbage. Money sucks. Go back to the barter system.

    1. Windows and Microsoft (The Ultimate Betrayal)

Oh, you thought you were safe because you only use Windows? Think again! This goes all the way to the top. The mechanism used to fix, patch, and secure every Windows machine on Earth—Windows Update—is powered by a Linux backend. Microsoft uses Linux servers and container networks to push out their own updates because apparently, Windows Server can’t even handle distributing its own code. So every time your PC forces a random reboot to install a security patch, a Linux server just handed Windows its lunch. Windows sucks so hard that it literally relies on Linux to fix itself, which means Windows is Linux by proxy. They both suck!

    Conclusion: The Ultimate Protest

If we are going to be pure, we have to commit. I am calling for a total and complete shutdown of modern society until the entire global infrastructure is rewritten in pure, unadulterated Windows ME. This is my final post. I am smashing my PC, disconnecting my power grid (because utility companies use Linux to manage the smart grid), and moving into a cave.

    Who is with me?!

    Awww, I got banned.

  • And while I was blocking the linux sucks moderator and posters something occurred to me. Most of the Lemmy instances are probably hosted on Linux as are the cloud providers among other things.

It they think linux sucks so badly they should cut it completely out of their lives and that means they shouldn't be using the internet.

  • Just spam them with FreeBSD stuff then.

FreeBSD and its derivatives ≠ Linux

Not to mention that more things run Linux than Windows including the router those people who hate Linux are using its running Linux.

Edit... FYI: I am a Linux user. My home server is TrueNAS (Linux based but been using it since FreeNAS 9.1), my desktop is Ubuntu Cinnamon, I use android for phones and tablets, my router is OpnSense (which is FreeBSD based but still FOSS.)

  • Clone every repository, start inserting bugs and viruses, then take the open source code and encrypt/obfuscate it and make minor changes

Then release it as a closed source product and have a spin doctor like Steve Jobs tell people mine is better and there are no viruses or bugs so they should switch.

That's the standard playbook, if it works it ain't broke so don't fix it.

  • I have the Coral dual tpu module and have an adapter coming that will allow me to use two of them for a total of 4 modules, paired with an ARC A310 for video decoding.

The only bad thing about the Google Coral is that Google has stopped development and archived the driver so one you get to a certain linux kernel version you will have issues unless you switch from the official version. https://lemmy.world/post/46390410

If I didn't already have the Coral I would probably go with the Hailo 8. I'm going to use the ARC A310 for detection on a couple streams and the Coral for the rest since the detection is more basic.

  • FrigateNVR is a bit of a pain but has worked great with all my Reolink camera's. I also link them into HomeAssistant. I have one 4K PTZ camera, four 1080p fixed cameras, and one dual 4K lens 180 degree view camera all POE powered and hooked into both FrigateNVR and HomeAssistant.

I use a Quanta LB6M for 10G backbone and a Dell PowerConnect 5548 for Ethernet with a pair of DAC cables linking the two with my router and server connected via OM3 to the LB6M.

  • Usually never... I did a tablet last night.

Been doing a network change, have setup multiple vLAN's and WiFi SSID's that connect to specific vLAN's. This tablet is still connected to the same AP and SSID but kept saying it couldn't authenticate. It was powered down during the switch and rebooted a couple times. Put in the password again and still couldn't authenticate... after 3 tries finally got pissed, gave the tablet the finger, and walked away.

It was connected and working fine this morning, go figure.

Will probably be pissed at it again when I make a bunch of firewall rule changes today.

  • I worked at a truck wash. I would wash tractor trailers with a power washer, scrub the the tractors with a regular old wash mitt for a car and wash trailers with a brush of similar size as at a coin op car wash except with a handle l long enough to reach the top of the trailer while standing on the ground.

A group of 5 people would wash an entire truck in 15 to 20 minutes. My shift during school started on a Friday at around 5pm and would run till 11pm but usually ended up being midnight. Saturday was 3 till 11pm but again we were generally working till midnight and Sunday varried but we stopped accepting new trucks at 4pm. During the summer my shift started at 3pm and could run till 3am even though we closed at 11pm. There were many times we had 10 trucks in line at 11pm with two trucks in the wash bays during the summer and were turning new trucks away and leaving a couple parked till the morning to get washed.

During slower times we would take in degreaser jobs where we would use a pressure steamer to remove the grease from the entire truck so it could go in for some major work and the mechanic shop workers didn't have to clean it off of deal with it. Degreasing trucks sucks....

  • Yeah, JMD is about 100:1 so it was actually really easy. I took a picture with 20,000 in Jamaica and sent that back to some people I knew. Made it look impressive but in reality only about 200 bucks.

  • VM ≠ Docker

  • Well on my last trip I was using 500's for most purchases. I felt like a rich man. However I was an American in Mexico using local currency. I had quite a few US 100's when I got there that was used to pay for my diving and lodging.

When I was in Jamaica it was mostly 1000's.

In the US it's usually 20's when I have cash because that is what the ATM's around here tend to give.

  • Most battery backups use off the shelf batteries with a sticker over the original information. Look up the battery and find a compatible replacement. If you can't find the model number on the battery look at the specs for the battery and cross reference it that way. There are tons of different places that sell the batteries so just start searching.

Also most LFP batteries that match the original leaf acid batteries in size and voltage will not be able to output enough power unless the loading is light. To handle a full load on something similar to a 1500 va ups you need about 80 amps of available power most lfp batteries you get that will fit in a ups are rated at 1c so a 10ah battery can only supply 10 amps of power. That will require a custom battery build that will also need a bms and likely require a modification to the ups to be used and likely will not fit inside the case.

  • Domain about 10 per year (I pay for multiple years at a time), internet 55 per month with a static IP address

Beyond that I have a vpn that I use but was an early adopter so I have a lifetime subscription which cost me like a hundred bucks so call that 10 per year and getting less as time goes by, I have three other domain names not related to my homelab and webhosting also not related to my homelab. But by the time next year I should no longer be paying for any hosting. I bought a lifetime plexpass when it was like 125. Beyond that the costs are hardware and electricity and I just put an Enphase System Controller 3 and an IQ Combiner 5 on the house with 7.2kw of panels going on over the next few months and a couple IQ Battery 5P's so my power use for my homelab is basically covered.

  • I was 18 and ended up on a DUI case. The defense attorney during selection asked if anyone had never drank before. Naturally since I was not of legal age yet I raised my hand and was soon removed from the jury. I wasted most of my work day plus the fuel to get there and got nothing for it.

My second jury summons was for an entire month of potential service. My wife had multiple doctor appointments per week that she would be unable to get to without me so I filed paperwork with the court and was released from duty.

Believe me, been there. I have dealt with depression for nearly as long as I can remember. I was always an outcast in school. I had family who were toxic, abusive, and downright nasty pieces of work. When my son died at 9 days old in 2002 I struggled to do anything and was nearly 400 pounds. Then I became a widower in 2019 when my wife died, I was heartbroken and while I was alive I wasn't living.

You have to find something to do, you have to get out and make a friend, you have to do anything you can to stop staring at the four walls around you. Exercise helps a lot, go for a walk in a park or ride a bike around town. Also set a schedule and stick to it, plan for 15 or 20 minutes of exercise, get up at the same time every day, go to bed at the same time too. Learn to cook it you don't already know how and cook most of your meals. Dump the junk food, BTW pre made packaged food is junk food and so is fast food. Get in the shower every day, brush your teeth too. Go to the library and read a book. Learn a new skill. Talk to a stranger. Go help someone else just to do it. Pick up some trash on the side of the road. Do something... ANYTHING... different than you normally do. Doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results is a simple definition of insanity.

You also can't rely on someone else to make you happy. You have to do that for yourself. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/wander-woman/202505/5-ways-to-discover-and-deepen-what-makes-you-happy
