Yes, many tribes did. In Oklahoma the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole, historically practiced slavery, and their descendants, known as Freedmen, are still fighting for recognition and citizenship within these tribes today.

Never heard the arguments you are referencing but most of the slaves from Africa were captured and sold into slavery by the African tribes. Slavery was in existence even before Europeans visited Africa.
Slavery still exists in Africa today even though it's technically illegal.
