  • Every investment has grown incredibly in price. Stocks, gold and also housing. That is honestly the biggest reason a blue collar workers pay can no longer feed a family of five easily. In the 60s food was actually pretty expensive back then for example. In the US of 1960 a stick of butter would be the equivalent of $27.74 today. However housing was not and that makes up a huge part of current spending, if you do not own a property already.

  • WW2 was not a boon to production. Well it was for weapons, but most of Europe and good parts of Asia were destroyed with millions dead. The only country coming out of it in better shape was the US, which did not see bombing and had relatively low human losses(still horrible to be clear, but not even close to what others had).

    Modern wars suck and any smart country will try to avoid them. Hence you see Russia being fucked over by the EU via Ukraine and China fucking the US via Iran. Obviously you need dumb leaders to walk into those traps into the first place.

  • Coal is mostly used to produce electricity and steel. So more electricity from solar then coal is actually good news.

    However oil and gas are much harder to replace, but again we actually have a lot of the technology, it is "just" about rolling it out on scale, which is hard.

  • The period after WW2 was one of two periods in Western Europe, were wealth inequality went down in the last thousand years or so. The other one was the Black Death, when a lot of people died and that lead to worker shortages. Honestly a lot of deaths in WW2 might have also been a big part of why the post war period was so pleasant.

    Makes you think about the low fertility rate in a different way.
