  • Exactly!

  • So... in 20-month-old mice.

The OP article doesn't get around to saying they aren't ready for human trials until you've scrolled most of the way down, leading the casual reader to think the participants were human.

  • If you're packing a PBJ for later, a thin layer of soft butter on the jelly side prevents it sogging the bread. Especially helpful if you're using preserves rather than jelly, so there's fruit-syrup between the fruit pieces. It also adds a nice little salty-umami flavor.

  • The only woman in the story is the victim, who was standing outside the vehicle as it pulled up and the gun blew through the door.

It's interesting to me that nothing is mentioned about the driver/gun owner, and it's written in passive voice as if the vehicle, dog, and gun all acted by themselves. But SOMEONE not only drove to the store with a loaded unsecured shotgun, they also had their unsecured dog with it in the backseat.

Fortunately it appears the door took the brunt and the woman wasn't killed. Maybe the gun and dog should have aimed at the driver's seat.

  • Woof means woof

  • And treats!

  • As a woman myself I find it easier to button my husband's shirt than my daughter's. Because my hands know how to do my own, facing in the opposite direction on my body.

  • I'd like to point out that it makes undressing a person of the opposite button-direction easier. Because they're facing you but your finger muscles are trained from undressing yourself. So just maybe all the stuff about servants is bowdlerizing the real purpose. Nobody was helping lowerclass women, and rich men had valets.

  • Dog is just visiting. Fortunately cats always have the high ground

  • Sometimes unusual combinations are great, like brie with sushi ginger. I imagine the cottage cheese works well with the spicy hot sauce and horseradish, and the umami of the pork.

  • I feel bad for her husband. Bone cancer, and now she's gonna be around him all the time.

  • Oh my bad.

  • Do you happen to know what the green leaves with the scalloped edges are? Because it looks similar to my catnip plant.

If she's friendly she might have an owner. If you want to find out, tie on a note with your cell number using a thread that can break if it gets caught as she leaps. If so, you can just give her some pets and not worry about her.

If you don't hear from anyone, don't just assume you can take her home and make her yours. Get her checked for a chip and put out Found Cat signs/notices. Some little kid could be crying.

If she's feral you might look into a local group that does TNR. They could provide a cage and free or low-cost spay/neuter vet.

  • And in junior high they probably didn't clue you into the bawdier bits of the individual tales.

  • To be fair, survival bias. This is the poetry that was so beautiful and engaging it was repeated and preserved for 500+ years. I'm sure there were vassals trading japes in Middle English who didn't rise above the erudition and imagery of your average teenage wastrel shooting the shit in Modern English.

And there is still plenty of good poetry being created, which I can't always appreciate fully because I don't get the references or even some of the words. Which will last? Let's check back in 500 years.

  • This is true and perhaps it would be nice if the running machine would say, "you've burned through 73,000 calories!" But then the Doritos bag would have to say 375,000 calories (75 g, 2 ⅝ ounces, about 30 chips) (edit: Nacho Cheese specifically)

  • Of course!

Here's the start of a really good series, all in normal English:

Whan that Aprille with his shoures soote, The droghte of March hath perced to the roote, And bathed every veyne in swich licóur Of which vertú engendred is the flour; Whan Zephirus eek with his swete breeth Inspired hath in every holt and heeth The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne Hath in the Ram his halfe cours y-ronne, And smale foweles maken melodye, That slepen al the nyght with open ye, So priketh hem Natúre in hir corages, Thanne longen folk to goon on pilgrimages, And palmeres for to seken straunge strondes, To ferne halwes, kowthe in sondry londes; And specially, from every shires ende Of Engelond, to Caunterbury they wende, The hooly blisful martir for to see, That hem hath holpen whan that they were seeke
