I may get downvoted for this, but in my family we always chop an onion and add it to the cooking water along with the macaronis. It flavors the pasta and adds more bites. Or you can saute it in the butter as you make your bechamel, if you want a stronger onion flavor.

It must've been terrible to find her so terribly injured, and to make the desperate run to the vet, and then she couldn't be saved. At least they could make her passing less painful. Some cats are just so determined to do dangerous things, especially chewing/eating things they shouldn't, that there's no stopping them. Sounds like she had a fierce independent spirit in her little body. Now it's gone, but you'll see flashes of it out in the world, and feel its warmth deep in your heart. Take your time to recover. But also know that if another cat comes into the empty place in your life, her claim on you will be undiminished.
