  • I think there's an unstated presumption that the person committing the crime in question is here illegally. Basically, a lot of these people believed that Trump was going to be focusing on the "worst of the worst". I think he's trying to make clear that he supports getting people out of the country if they've committed crimes he personally thinks are serious. He still likes the idea of removing people from their communities, he just wants to be able to pick and choose who is affected.

    Also, to be clear, his brother committed at least three crimes just from what he says in this short clip. You have to be a special kind of stupid to vote for mass deportations now knowing you have immediate family here that could be affected.

  • I can't imagine what kind of business he thinks he's going to bring in with this. Trumpers will hate him now and anyone on the left will think he's an idiot. Centrists will now be aware that his restaurants are understaffed and missing a lot of the people who kept them running smoothly.

    What I can imagine is an aggrieved business owner complaining to the news about the grave injustice that happened to them - not their employees mind you. Thinking that since the world revolves around them that maybe someone important will see them on the news Trump will care about their personal plight. Like when Jenner complained about her passport saying she's a male or that shitty cartoonist appealing to Trump for life saving meds. These people think they're special and that their support means that Trump will care about them.

  • What makes you think that? She arrived just a few years ago and doesn't have legal status at the moment. She was probably looking for someone who would be able to get her the ability to stay in the US.   • Lmaooo. This guy says Trump sold to him that "he's a businessman". Bro, he doesn't care about YOUR business. Trump bankrupted casinos. He doesn't care about the concept of businesses, he cares about money. You could probably find a sum to get all your employees out of hot water, the question is whether you could afford it or not. This feels like a loss for the community, but I hope all his locations go under and get replaced by places that value the employees and community they serve more than this guy.

    Absolutely idiotic behavior to vote for the racist "mass deportations now" candidate when your livelihood depends on the exact people he's talking about deporting. He couldn't see this coming when they went around saying they're eating the cats and dogs? What has he done since then to organize and protect not just the people, but his investment? Oh, nothing?   • He's apparently under 40 and capable of navigating the Internet. Very strange that he wouldn't at least bother to look it up online or something. Presumably he had to find the phone number he called so he seems capable of finding information. It really isn't that hard to set up a free VPN if you're literate and have Internet access. I'm someone who regularly defends people not using Linux because it's confusing for them, so I feel like I'm not being overly demanding here or anything. I'm pretty sure Firefox has a free one built in now. So, it might've been as easy as downloading Firefox and clicking a button. I'm not sure because I don't use Firefox like that, but still.

  • My layman's understanding is that manufacturing like this needs to be run constantly due to the cost associated with the production. Apple would have to sell their stuff to competitors at that point to have the foray make sense. Current manufacturers can make things for lots of different companies so they can ensure their line is always fulfilling an order. I'm not sure if Apple would want to do that.

  • This is such a frustrating take. If we're unable to protest outside dem events then what's the point of having actual opinions? We should be able to ask more of our politicians. We should be able to express our dissatisfaction with their policies.

    Say "vote blue no matter who" all you want, but theoretically the reason it's vote blue and not vote red is because blue represents our positions more than red does. If we're not able to hold them to that ideal then we're just picking our favorite color.

    Also, acting like the people protesting are somehow in the wrong when most people aren't lifting a finger to stop a literal genocide is certainly a take. Most people I know who care about Gaza still vote blue no matter who and acting otherwise serves to discredit a movement that is attempting to fight for the things we as dems/leftists theoretically stand for.

    You seem Australian, so I'm just going to add that America has a long history of protest movements and denigrating modern day Gaza protests is a pretty good predictor of how you'd feel about Vietnam war protests or a lot of the civil rights protests. I don't know how things work in Australia, but in the US, most of our rights, even the bill of rights, are the result of people willing to put themselves on the line for what they believed. Unless you're pro genocide, I don't see a point in taking issue with Gaza protesters.

It was pretty well done and I appreciate the creators overall point and evidence. For anyone else in the comments, I think there are two couple of second long clips of Hank Green that are used to make a larger point about what are essentially attempts at normalizing AI.

  • I don't browse Reddit since I switched entirely to Lemmy the day the API migration happened, but I did still reluctantly have to reference reddit on occasion. Now I can't even do that for niche issues I run into. I am so upset that millions of people donated their time and energy into making Reddit the place it was just to have all of that entirely gated off. I know we're likely all in the same boat, but there really are no words for what spez did. He ruined a really great place for community and knowledge and turned it into a slop fest.

    Seems like senior managers and directors. I don't think these are fall guys. They seem like they were personally responsible for these things. I know corpo speak invents fancy job titles, but I don't think it's a situation where someone's personal assistant is being used as a scapegoat. These people should have known better and had other options. I did see that one upper exec had to pay but I didn't see any outline for what exactly they were charged with. I wish the articles did a better job of going into the details of punishments vs charges but I was just pointing out that actual time is being done since the title doesn't mention it.

    The above includes several management and director positions. Glad individuals are being held responsible. Hope they are radioactive to companies going forward. As pointed out below, execs at the highest level are not doing time for this though.

  • Though I think the corpo dems are evil and definitely know what they're doing, I really can't agree that they're more at fault than the people actually doing the outright fascism. If the Rs actually kept to their original stances on Trump where most of them openly admitted he was going to ruin our country we would be in a different position too. Also, let's not act like the R voters are innocent little babies or anything. They knew a lot of terrible things were going to happen and they didn't care. I personally brought up gay rights and abortion issues to a more socially liberal R and they flat out said they think the most important thing is "getting rid of fraud" (because they think their taxes are too high). If you're willing to sacrifice rights of others because of imaginary (or real) fraud, you deserve whatever happens.

  • This is my take as well. I will add that I think I'm more likely to notice an issue with the type if the type is first though since it preps me to expect a certain thing after it.

    int firstName will likely trigger more alarms than firstName int but maybe thats just my perception due to familiarity. I feel like once I see the type my mind is looking to make the next part make sense whereas if I see the name first then I just assume what comes next makes sense and mentally move on.
