  • Depends on how much money you want to spend. People here giving pointers on cleaning sources of smells and I second that, but to answer your question, three things work for me to actually make my home smell like something in particular:

    1- Essential oil diffuser. IMO the most effective, the downside is that not all essential oils are as fancy as, say, the fragrances of the other options in this list. Also you have a bit of an investment upfront, diffuser+oils. But they last reasonably long.

    2- Reed diffusers: vast variety of prices here, the pricier ones are nicer and last longer. The downside is that the scent will lose effectiveness with time. Usually I can't smell the oil once it's reaching a quarter left unless I pick a reed and smell the oily end. YMMV depending on how large and how ventilated the area is.

    3- Scented candles: again, you get what you pay for. Honestly it's usually the big very expensive ones the only ones that really work. Also, fire, so that's a potential hazard if you have pets/kids. IMO they can work if they're good, but they don't last as long, meaning, more expensive.

  • You're right that I'm surprised by the honor system, not arguing that. I don't know, I figured they could perhaps cross check automatically with some database such a driver's license but, guess not . What you said makes absolute sense.

  • I'm also out of mainstream media. So far I've got to music through YouTube, or should I say newpipe. I find channels that curate music I'm into, I see what they got, if something interests me then I'll make a dedicated search for the artist.

    I also straightforwardly asked a couple times here on Lemmy too, I was introduced to some really cool stuff I wouldn't have found otherwise.

    But I appreciate you posting this, some people are recommending new, non mainstream media ways of finding new music, that's good

  • I'm not OP, I've tried this in the past and at least for my genres it didn't provide anything new or that I would like. I saying that though, I'm not placing the site at fault.

  • I don't know if I have a favorite consumable. Let's see, if a drink, it could be tonic water or some homemade lemonade with tonic, or it could be bubble tea, or it could be fireball or botrytis if I'm feeling like something alcoholic.

    Foods might be chocolate, ice cream, chips, cake, prosciutto, olives, blue cheese and crackers

    Drugs would be mushrooms but I wouldn't consider that a relaxation companion.

    I don't think I put anything on my stereo if I want to relax. Like if I did, I wouldn't have the food or drinks. I get easily overwhelmed like that. Scrap the food and drink and put carbon based lifeforms

  • I see your point, but it doesn't have to be that way. In fact what I've seen here wasn't long creative writing essays, rather, photos with a very short description. Which is what I'm after.

    People still share long posts under all sorts of contexts too, and LLMs train on everything. If you are holding on to prevent LLMs training then you might as well not post anywhere at all
