  • I once saw heard a 4wD crash right on the neighbors' solid brick wall, right across the street. The cops were chasing the car, which was stolen, and arrested the driver. My 16y/o chicken self got so scared with all the noise that I didn't dare to peek through the window for a good ten minutes. When I finally did, I thought the hole in the wall looked surreal. The impact also damaged the garage door. I can't even begin to imagine the insurance shitshow that must have been.

  • Watermarking never meant to be a legitimate way of telling this stuff apart. Anyone slightly savvy could run a generator locally and produce images without watermarking, if they really meant to fool others. You are right in that the watermarking makes it (or did) more difficult for the average joe, but yeah. This is a never was kind of scenario

  • Not sure if this applies to you but maybe you have heard a phrase about you that doesn't make sense fully. In my case, it was "you're intimidating" and that took me a long long time to understand because as a woman who has a lot of insecurities and can't physically fight this is absolutely ridiculous. Then one day I was watching some relationship guru video clip and the guy said "if you're told you're intimidating and can't make sense of it, it means you are hard to impress". That clicked. At least, within dating contexts. I don't know. I think most of the honest feedback I've gotten from potential dates, from boyfriends, from family members (though that required always a difficult argument beforehand and getting feedback was never the goal) and also from teachers who get fed up with your bullshit occasionally. It's never going to come to you from a comfortable source, but you shouldn't be asking your enemies either, because they'll lie too.

  • Rogue, because stealth

  • If this is food porn, it's very niche

  • Lol yes that didn't make any sense. They should remove #3 to at least keep it coherent

  • Laughed more than I should.

    Also I want this phone

  • Image doesn't load. I can only see a small thumbnail but can't read what's in it. I guess my thoughts would be to go see an eye specialist straight away.

  • Yay thanks

  • Yaaaasssss

  • That sounds intense, I hope Christine made a full recovery?

  • Books and CDs/casettes were much more important and impressive. Kind of like magical in a way. You can say they still are, but imo it's not the same. Back then you had to buy them or risk forever losing that piece of media. You liked two songs but you got the whole CD anyway, you got that book just in case and if you were into collecting images you would buy loads, on stuff you didn't even care about, just because the photos were interesting.

Video rental places had an energy similar to a candy shop. You wanted to taste all of them.

In a way all those media now feel maybe valuable, collectible, but not really essential. They aren't as special anymore. I think it's easy to imagine what it was like but if you didn't live through it you wouldn't fully get it, it's like explaining doing drugs or giving birth, one of those things that you can easily understand logically but only when you experience it you grasp the concept entirely. Crazy to think that probably most things from our cultural past are exactly like that and no matter how much we study them we will never truly understand them.

  • Lol it's really silly I love it just as much as she loves the venetian blinds

  • I don't think you would notice just walking down the street. Try being in an environment where you actually deal with people consistently over time, such as a classroom, an office, or a place where you volunteer.
