  • Trump building granite helipad on White House South Lawn

  • So less than a month ago Trump held a UFC fight on this very lawn.

    ScottsMiracle-Gro said it will donate “a combination of monetary and product support” to the National Park Service, including plans to re-sod the lawn and use a special blend of turfgrass chosen by Trump to reseed it. The company expects the lawn to be fully restored by spring of next year.

    Per TheHill.

    Now that lawn is turning into a helipad? What happened to the company that said they're going to fix it? What happened to that money?

    I know the obvious answer is someone just pocketed $1 million dollars, but who?

  • Calling Rhaenyra's children bastards is what got Corlys's brother killed, so it's definitely going to cause problems.

    I also wonder how Rhaenyra would have reacted to this situation if she knew about it years before. When having dinner Corlys drops the sons reveal as a "you might have guessed" but Rhaenyra seems surprised.

    I think her immediate reaction makes more sense once you remember that Jace, Luke and Joffery are also bastards. Joffery is her current heir, and weirdly technically a Velaryon at the moment. Her legitimizing Allyn & Addam would bring up questions about Joffery.

    Although with all the crazy things going on I don't know if this is a real concern, or just Rhaenyra feeling guilty. It would be nice if we had a rumor from one of the rich folk that made her concern at least a little bit real.

  • What a fun trick Ormond has played.

    We meet Ormond and he's got a little redheaded kid in bright green following him around. We know Alicent has a kid who's probably hanging out with Ormond, but the show ignores him. It's a weird decision by the show, clearly he's important, why not call him out.

    Jump to this episode. I guess not. Another platinum haired Targaryen. But we've been fooled yet again! That was just well done all around.

    Also false Daeron thought he might be burned alive, and Daemon wanted him burned alive, so as to Rhaenyra wondering if Ormond thought he would get away with it... Yeah, he did, at least until he was ready to reveal it.

    Also Sunfyre officially called dead this episode. But Aegon was also "officially" called dead this episode. I don't think Baela would have lied, so she must have been tricked, which means Aegon + Larys have probably arrived at Rook's Rest and we'll get their story, perhaps all of the Green POVs next episode.

    Also I get Rhaenyra isn't happy with her Dragonstone small council, but it seems like they could at least tend to things while she gets a better council in place. Although I guess her learning to rule and make choices like that are part of the story this reason.

    Same with the Queensguard. I know Ser Lorent can't be trusted and is probably dead now, but I assume she had others to at least get the Queensguard started.

  • Ulf is definitely being setup to cause trouble. Although his wants are pretty direct, man wants a castle and will probably "follow orders" in order to get one.

    Hugh seems a bit more honest a man, so Daemon could definitely take things too far and cause Hugh to fight back.

    Allyn probably wouldn't stand against Daemon directly, but he would back up Hugh or someone else.

  • Just to be fair, the Nintendo Switch 2 does support "Game Key Card" games. Such that you still must download the game and use the card to authenticate your game.

    However there are zero first party* Nintendo games that are "Game Key Card" games. If you buy Mario or Zelda you do get the game on the card.

    I do expect that will change in the future and follow the trend Sony is taking to be 100% digital. So you're right to be concerned that they are heading in the same direction.in fact with Sony already heading that direction it's even more certain.

    *(Pokemon, which feels like a first party and Nintendo owns a large portion of, is technically third party.)

  • I once bought a small tube of toothpaste for travel. I didn't really check what was allowed by the airport, I just bought what looked small enough. I arrived at the airport, went through security, traveled to my destination and used the toothpaste during the week I was away.

    When I was set to return my toothpaste was flagged at the airport. It was "too big". I of course argued with the TSA agent that I had flown into this exact airport a week before with MORE toothpaste in the container than it had in it now. Of course there is no logic. Into the bin my mostly new toothpaste went.

  • I misunderstood the stabbing Aemond got at first and thought Alys was doing some magic on him. I thought the son reacted with a push/grab instinctively before trying to pull it back. But Alys will be a great "mother" figure for Aemond, similar to how she was to Daemon.

    In terms of killing the Strongs, yeah that was stupid. Vhagar was having fun so I guess he wanted to have fun too.

    In terms of Sheepstealer, Rhaena fucked up bad, and then doubled down by hiding in the Vale. Daemon said he'd hunt the dragon down, but that seems like a job for someone like Hugh or Ulf, at least finding where the dragon is.

    I also wonder if Rhaenyra will ask/blame Alicent for the death of Jace. It seems like she'll be angry that Alicent didn't tell her that the Greens had an extra dragon. And Alicent seemingly lied about Aegon not being at King's Landing. But of course she told the truth about Aemond. But then Rhaenyra killed Alicent's dad. They have a lot to work out and I don't see that happening.

    I suspect the Larys, like Littlefinger, will survive for a long while. He's already outlived the rest of his family. Also Larys is someone who plays all sides so he can always come out on top. But then why has he chosen Aegon? Of the Greens, Aegon is the least powerful/influential, despite being King.

    If Larys and Aegon are successful in getting to Rook's Rest, and Sunfyre is alive, then what? Rhaenyra holds King's Landing. Aemond holds Harrenhall. Rhaenyra wants him dead. Aemond wants him dead. Hell Alicent is fine with him being dead.

    What's the plan?

    As for what Rhaenyra does next? I assume Alicent, Helena & her kid will be confined somewhere. The Hightower Army and Alicent's other son Daeron(?) will cause trouble for Rhaenyra's rule. Maybe they'll take Dragonstone and we'll have a full Green/Black reversal.

  • I know I've said it before but this is the last time I can say it. I can't undersell how fucking stupid HBO was to cut season 2 down from 10 to 8 episodes without a plan in place. This is a glorious season 2 final episode.

    As Daemon approached his "gift" I was running through my head who could possibly be trapped in the cells. Otto wasn't fresh in my mind, but I remembered Alicent talking with her brother about their father missing. I really hoped Otto had a bigger story left to tell, but his death is brutal. Aegon is a shitty kid, but Otto? Brutal. And then Alicent shows up? Brutal.

    Also Aemond killing off Strong boys again. I think only Larys Strong survives? For now at least. I assume he'll be dead before the war is over. Maybe by Aemond.

    Also shout out to Corlys who is apparently impossible to kill.

  • Yeah I'm also bummed about it. I watch the Livestream and Dragon Time, but they're both long and rambling. I appreciated the excellent production of the breakdowns.

    I'm hoping that maybe we'll get a season explained or something at some point between the next two year gap.

  • I don't remember the exact quote Jace used, but I think he said something like a queen's guard giving their life to protect her, which to me was definitely that guard knowingly sacrificing his life (in the future) to protect Rhaenyra.

    I'll be curious to see if that queen's guard has a storyline going forward.

  • I wonder how much Rhaena really knew about "wild dragons". All the other dragons she grew up around bonded quickly with their rider. When Aemond bonded with Vhagar he took right off to the sky. And while she didn't see it, she must have heard of Ulf bonding with a dragon and almost immediately taking off to fly over King's Landing.

    Plus she also arrived at Dragonstone to see a battle and made a game time decision.

  • Rhaenyra and Aegon both played the part of the "King" that can not fall.

    For Aegon he wanted to fly into battle on Sunfyre but was told that he could not. He's too "precious". But he defies the wisdom of others, flys into battle and... (maybe we can blame Aemond) he is burned to near death.

    It's hard to call Aegon successful.

    For Rhaenyra she is constantly told the same. She wisely follows the guidance of others. But... she also extends her protection to her sons. Jace isn't wrong, following his mothers wisdom, to volunteer for the Battle of the Gullet. He's wrong to hold his mother back... Or is he? The wisdom of the council would have urged her to stay back.

    Politically speaking Rhaenyra staying behind and Jace going out makes sense. Jace is important, but he isn't more important than Rhaenyra. As queen Rhaenyra should understand his decision. But as a mother? No fucking way.

    Is the way it played out perfect? Not really. But is the decision brutal in the best way possible? Absolutely.

  • Two years is a LONG FUCKING TIME to wait for episode 9... but holy shit!

    Watching the press tour, seeing Jace's actor, "Oh, I wonder what he'll get up to this season?" As soon as he locked his mother away I knew he was doomed. Also drowning a dragon is diabolical. I loved that he got away the first time. Then just slowly falling into the water. Jace escapes, then gets Robb'ed. RIP Jace. RIP Vermax.

    Also Sheepstealer is why you don't bring a nuke to a knife fight. We ballin' fuck everybody else.

    And of course shout out to Alyn of Hull for stepping up. I did a rewatch before this season and one of the last discussions he had was about not wanting to be in charge. I'm not confident Corlys is dead, but he'll be proud if he isn't.

    Also Aemond kissing Alicent. Wild. Her face says so much.

  • Doing better than Kamala would have been easy. Even 2023 Kamala would have beaten 2024 Kamala. I think Walz is still the most likely VP, but I think Mark Kelly or Mayor Pete lead the ticket.

    One of he biggest mistakes the Harris campaign made was to be just "Joe Biden Lite".

    Plus a Biden without the baggage of a 2024 campaign could have done A LOT more.

    Democrats might have fought and complained, but come fall 2024 I suspect they would have been happy enough with their choice. Sure it may have been a Clinton 2020 situation, but probably better off.

  • So if I understand it, this is an extension of the "corporate personhood" debate. If corporations are people, then they are entitled to free speech including the freedom in how they spend their money. However corporations are entities created by the state, not people, therefore the state has the right to define what powers a corporation has.

    Basically your not restricting the type of spending allowed, a corporation doesn't have the ability to spend.

    I hope this argument works. I expect it will make its way through the courts over the next several years. It was the Robert's Court that decided Citizens United and it's only grown more conservative over the years, so I would suspect they would claim this is still a restriction. But maybe they've see the damage Citizens United has done or just simply affirm that states, as the creators of corporations, have the right to define what they can do.

    That seems like a pretty big carve out.
