  • What laws (if any) should exist around recreational drugs?

  • So one the arguments around drugs like marijuana is that "under the influence" is difficult to detect and test.

    For alcohol we have BAC or Blood Alcohol Content. It's far from a perfect measurement, but it is measurable and we have laws that define "too much". It's also relatively simple to measure.

    We don't have a way to simply measure Blood Marijuana Content or any similar measurement. Even if we can measure it, what is "too much" is also not well defined.

    Which I largely mention because "similar to alcohol", while I agree, is easier said than done.

    we still value our physical culture. Rather than completely abandoning that, we are currently challenging ourselves to shift towards being able to think about and act on the important aspects of digital in parallel.

    Yeah. They are challenging themselves to think about the shift.

    It Sony doesn't make disks or the PSwhatever doesn't have a disk drive... Not much to think about.

    It's a good message, but just a message.

  • The timing of AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) was unfortunate. Nintendo pretty much ignored the Metroid franchise, but they had done a remake of the first Metroid game "recently".

    AM2R came out right around the time Nintendo was announcing their own Metroid 2 remake, and a solid one at that. (That same developer would next make Metroid Dread, which is excellent.)

    Regardless Nintendo was going to takedown AM2R eventually, but they were particularly aggressive because they were also remaking Metroid 2.

    But both games are excellent. You should play AM2R.

  • I haven't read the books yet, but I've been wondering what Aegon's story is going to be. He goes east, maybe gets some soldiers, but he'll never have enough to come back.

    Plus, he's a shit king.

    But maybe that's the idea. Larys was going to take him east where they both just grow old and die. Tyland is going to "force" them to stay in Westeros. From that Aegon will learn more about war and grow to be a better person.

    Then, if basically everyone else dies, Aegon can return as King and be at least ok at it.

    I know the "Dance of Dragons" is the end of dragons, but I don't know if that's literal. And I guess if everyone who has a dragon dies... Then yeah... Basically everyone would be dead. Alicent has ruling knowledge and could help Aegon be a salvageable king.

  • Poor Daeron. Gwayne said he let Ormund win when they were young. Daeron hasn't learned that lesson yet.

    Larys telling Aegon that not only was he a terrible ruler, he's a terrible person was excellent.

    Also surprise Lannister. I also wonder what his plan was prior to running into Aegon & Larys. My best guess is he had some Lannister sigils and hired a few sell swords to get him home, they do always pay their debts after all.

    And of course Rhaenyra and Daemon just chatting in Valyrian at the Sept was cool.

  • Has there ever been a movie set in a superhero universe that is about a non-superhero character?

  • I'm guessing "Damage Control", at least for Marvel.

    They actually are in the MCU but seem to be taking on a different role.

    We see them briefly in Spider-Man Homecoming, as them taking over the cleanup of New York being the basis for the Vulture.

    We've also seen them in other MCU film/TV, but they're more antagonistic.

    There were rumors of a more cleanup focused show, hopefully we get one post Secret Wars.

  • It's excellent, but weird.

    The first season is monster of the week and fine but nothing amazing. Until it reaches the Captain America Winter Soldier crossover. In that film SHIELD is revealed to be HYDRA, so the same event unfolds in the show. It's awesome.

    The second season is a bit directionless. It was supposed to link up with the new Marvel show Inhumans (who are kinda like X-Men, but legally distinct.)

    But about halfway through that season and for the rest of the series they largely ignore the rest of the MCU and connected properties, which gives them a lot of freedom and the ability to tell their own stories.

    I think a tightly connected TV series and films universe would have been great, as it was when they connected the SHIELD/HYDRA reveal. But since different people were in charge of movies versus TV, and the TV guy sucked, doing their own thing was the best option, and it worked well.

  • It's usually temporary "until the next election". Some states allow that next election to be the regularly scheduled one (and the term in the Senate is 6 years, so that could be a while), or some states require a special election within X number of days. (And some states don't allow it at all.)

    In this case Lindsey Graham's next election is this November, having just won the primary. But I think there is still time for the Republicans to decide on a different candidate.

    So, chances are, Graham's sister will be in place through the election in November, and then the term ends in January.

  • I mean Graham and his sister have a tragic backstory, so I don't think it would raise many questions.

    As best I can tell this is the first case of a sibling taking over. There are also fewer recent examples than I thought. I assumed a "window succession" was fairly standard, but it seems it's been 25+ years since it happened last (in the US Senate).

    He gave his whole speech about Targaryens being weird/unnatural, and he called Daeron a Hightower.

    So maybe he decided Aegon "dying" and Aemon disappearing as a sign.

  • Now? It's a common practice. It's called "Widow's succession". In this case it is Lindsey's sister, but the spirit is the same.

    Usually it is someone to just finish out the current term (not running in the election) or until a special election can take place.

  • I wonder if Larys needs Aegon as proof that whatever money is hidden away he should have access to.

    If we assume he knows where the Crown's money is, he can't just show up as Larys and ask for the money. At best he is the former Lord of Harrenhal and former Master of Whispers. But with Aegon he is technically still the Lord of Harrenhal and the Master of Whispers AND he has the "one true king" with him.

    Someone might have fucked over a poor club footed man. But the King? (Well probably still, but it's less likely.)

  • I think the answer is that Otto is just a better man/father/game player.

    As a second son he had "nothing" and rose to become basically king and did a pretty solid job.

    In addition his children, Alicent & Gwayne, largely obeyed their father and became good people.

    Ormund however was raised to be a leader and heir. He probably saw Otto level up and thought that should have been him. He listened to his father, who was probably pleased to see Otto succeed since as the older brother he probably "guided" him into the role and could take credit. But once Ormund was in charge he wanted to be his own man and that's why he cut off correspondence.

    Otto put his child on the throne (ish) as Queen Alicent and then his grandchildren on the actual throne. If Otto can do it, so can Ormund. So he's going to put "his son", Daeron, on the throne.

    Rhaenera? Aegon? Aemond? Daeron? One more and we'd have five potential claims!

    But also... Helena is pregnant, right?

    Also fucking Daemon. Forced to choose. Your wife or your daughter. I'm sure that won't cause issues later on.

    Also is Sunfyre really dead? How is Aegon going to make his comeback? What does Larys really want? He seems too opportunistic to just truly believe in Aegon.

  • Those are excellent points. I hope the next episode (or any upcoming episodes) focus on the religion.

    Alicent's brother in the preview for the next episode says something like a holy/divine mission to restore Aegon. So perhaps we'll get a full religious crusade.
