  • I had someone arguing at me here, with the supreme confidence of the ignorant, that trump and Harris would be the same for Palestineans.

  • That experience hits too close to home.

I think because we choose the topics we engage with on social media, they're usually ones we're passionate about.

But the size of the online community means most folks are anonymous. So, unlike your friends or even a group of strangers, there's a much lower consequence for jerkiness, rudeness etc in response to views which in your eyes may range from insane to evil.

  • That's one of the reasons I cut the cord.

And unsubscribed from Netflix/Prime when they started asking for more money for ads.

And freak out whenever the weird hacky fix from the depths of Lemmy that kills youtube ads stops working for a day.

Ads are the goddamn worse, Carpenter had them dead to rights in They Live.

  • Yeah, mine's pretty old and sick but I'm really hoping she makes it through to the summer in large part so she can doze in the warm with the sun on her face at least a few more times before her time's up. (Well, that and I'm selfish and I'll miss the hell out of her.)

  • The fact that not one comment thus far has grappled with "we might just not be as popular as the republicans" is kind of telling.

We either write of slightly more than half the country or figure out a way to win them over.

(Admittedly, there's a slim chance where we rack up very specific sets of votes but I haven't seen anything to make that a reasonable bet.)

  • Well, I for one, make it rule to always trust someone whose sources are "trust me bro" !

  • Why do you think it's moderation?

And why on Earth would you think Lemmy doesn't skew young?

  • I don't think it's moderation. I think people are genuinely less capable these days at processing news with which they disagree.

That and I think Lemmy skews young, I bet a lot of folks here don't know anyone socially who would vote for trump.

  • Stop thinking with your feelings and how you wish things were Lemmy.

That's kinda how things work here/online. Did you not notice how every poll with trump up was downvoted to oblivion?

  • CBC/BBC/Al Jazeera, checking the Economist for my minute by minute bellweather county level fun.

  • Harris: Please no one else call them garbage, please God don't let anyone else call them garbage.

  • Ohhhh good point, thanks! She's still fairly mobile (though not as agile a jumper as she once was, which she gets angry about, loudly) but that's a great thing to remember!

  • Ha, totally fair. I really hate SQL server's dark mode options though and as I work through a few frustrating networks, I like just being plugged directly in, without screwing around with a better IDE.

But I'm an uncouth savage who uses f.lux as the day wears on.

  • Except for example, of the quarter of Latinos who had supported trump last election but maybe this time were wavering, the sitting president just called them garbage. Probably not ideal for someone considering voting for your party.

  • Sounds like a great plan, hadn't even considered they might have something like that! Thanks!

  • Oh that makes sense! I was a little worried it might be too hot but I imagine one at a pet store would have the temp taken care of etc.

    Thanks!

  • But he is also not being helpful.

  • Thanks folks, these were great suggestions! I will be getting her a heat pad shortly!

  • Ha, right? I feel bad for Harris, she gets unfairly saddled with all of Biden's baggage from both the Left and the Right and as VP can't really do much about it.

    Brutal position to be in.
