  • They were saying they were concerned about fire risk with their non-battery setup. They brought up this setup as if it'd alleviate that risk.

  • A 40Kwh battery is like 10 grand, I'm not sure why you brought that up. I'd be more likely to invest in a second battery and solar panel. It's been up for over 23 weeks right now, I'd guess a second solar panel and battery could keeping it up nearly 100% of the time, and it'd cost under $100 for a 200wh battery and 30w panel.

  • Yeah, I'm not sure what relation that has to this solar powered website.

  • So.... You're saying that if there's no power the website goes down.

  • It's basically Google Photos but you host it yourself.

  • I started uploading videos of my cat, not intentionally trying to go viral, but because she's cute and crazy and I wanted to share that with others. One of her videos did end up going viral and made like $160. She paid for her own food for a couple of months, not bad.

  • As someone who is currently monetized with 5000 watch hours in the past year, I'm super mixed on this. On the one hand, I'm only making like 30 bucks per month, basically nothing, so I can see how YouTube would want to reduce overhead. On the other hand, that $30 bucks per month is a nice little bonus. I'd still be creating without it, but it is nice to have, and, YouTube already doesn't pay out until you hit $100, so that oughtta reduce most of the overhead. It seems like it'd be a better solution to just raise that to a $200 minimum or something. You're probably right, it might just be greed.

Putting ads on these creator's videos AND not paying creators is wild though, no matter how small the channel is.

Side note: Am I at risk of becoming un-monetized?? I know it's possible.

Side note the second: I host my own instance of PeerTube for my videos - https://joeltube.com/

  • I don't think you can complain about ads in the same sentence as you say stuff isn't worth paying for.

  • Knew a kid that was homeschooled, he played on our soccer team, and for Halloween one year he dressed up as an old man, complete with the male pattern baldness hair cut. The guy absolutely owned it, I remember it being pretty funny.

  • Ope, my bad. Also, fair point I suppose. Took it a bit too literally I guess.

  • My asshole is squeaky clean, I wash it, like a human. How do you think cats clean their assholes?

  • Idk, licking my own dirty bunghole seems gross, but not as gross as licking someone else's.

  • Microwaves are usually 1000 or 1100 watts, in the US at least. Only the cheapo Walmart microwave I had in college was 900W. A kettle in the US is still more powerful and faster at up to 1500W or, less commonly, nearly 1800w.

  • Back when I made coffee using water boiled the microwave I'm pretty sure this happened to me a few times, mainly when I'd boil the water, let it sit because I got distracted, and boil it again. I never really noticed in the moment, until I opened the microwave and the entire thing was drenched inside. Fortunately it exploded inside, not outside.

  • In America that's pretty dang common. I have a kettle because I'm a nerd and watch Technology Connections, but it's kinda uncommon.

  • Ahh, gotcha, yeah. That'll definitely happen. Idk if I'll bother looking for the leaks though, I'll probably just watch it when R* releases it so I can view it in HD and whatnot.

  • Animal!

I thought that was clear from the title...
