ACAB, Anti-War, and I hate Democrats, Republicans, and billionaires. (Yes, even your favorite billionaire: the pop star, the philanthropost, the legendary athlete, or the soft-spoken investment guru who cosplays as middle class.) With each passing day I get a little closer to hating everyone.

Also, I refuse to use Donald's last name out of hatred for the man and his brand, FYI.

    There may be a few sanctuary areas that opt out of giving contracts to these intrusive surveillance contractors like Flock, but enough people have devices in their pockets or their homes that it won't make much of a difference. Every device a person has with a camera or microphone and a wireless connection is spying on you.

    Aggression's made sense for several years now. The only major change I've made was rebalancing 30% into international holdings last year away from the US, after the rebound from the chaos the tariffs caused.

  • I've been thinking of taking profit and going into money markets / cash anyway for a while. This just makes me want to do it more. This market is crazy and, I don't know when it'll happen, but the continued growth despite all the craziness in the world and corruption just doesn't feel sustainable.

    I don't visit my childhood home anymore because much of that forest gave way to new roads and homes and it just makes me sad to think about how little of it is still there.

    Yeah, but they actually had to do it to your face, and that risk meant that there were significantly fewer bullies. (At least in my experience.)

    I'm a weightlifter from age 13 though, so my build may have dissuaded bullies a tad.

  • There are some very cool videos on YouTube of people from the late 1800's and early 1900's describing the experience, and worth listening to.

    As for myself, life in the 80's and 90's was an adventure every fucking day. I grew up on county land with a huge forest behind it, and my brothers and friends and I were there so often that there were trails we'd made from walking so much. If we weren't in the woods we were on bikes zooming around the neighborhood or up to the gas station for snacks and drinks. I gained a love of reading and spent a lot of time at the school and local library picking up books and having more adventures in my head. We had huge video game arcades where you could spend hours with your friends too. We watched plenty of TV and movies, but you actually had to commit to it because streaming didn't exist. (Though VCR's later mitigated this somewhat.) Lots of us have great memories of video stores though, and yeah, I miss them. And without phones feeding you constant dopamine, it was easier to focus on these things and you enjoyed them more.

    Most of us had very few rules and weren't as closely-minded by our parents as kids are now. We just had to be home by sundown. We took care of ourselves and figured shit out for ourselves, partly why GenX and elder millenials aren't complainers by nature now.

    The downside is, when your friends moved away, they were just gone. You might exchange addresses or phone numbers, but you basically just never stayed in touch because you made new friends to replace the old ones. Long-distance calls were expensive and letters took too long to write when you had shit to do, and with such a big, wide world to explore as a kid, you always had shit to do.

    For me, the best way to describe it was that it was just quieter and much more peaceful. It was really nice not being able to read everyone's mind all the time and not knowing everything that was going on in the world. If someone hated certain types of people, they actually had to say it, and most people weren't willing to translate their personal biases and hatred into action without the veil of anonymity.

    It's going to be very satisfying in November, for about five minutes, when I watch this batch of Republicans get creamed in the elections. Then my brain's going to kick in to remind me that it doesn't matter, because all Democrats do when we give them power is make excuses about why they can't do anything, and then the hopelessness is going to kick right back in.

    I'm not a Donald supporter. I'm just also unwilling to pretend that a regressive health care system is a good thing because it came from the Blue MAGA instead of the Red MAGA, especially considering Obama could have (and should have) done better. .

    And yeah, we learned that lesson with Obama's presidency. The man had a supermajority for a while and all he did was make fascism worse and health care more expensive.

    That is not a fact. They're not stupid, as evidenced by a willingness to consider new evidence and change their opinion.

    They were lied to, just like you were when Joe Biden made extravagant promises and then prioritized a genocide over helping your family eat.

    It also doesn't help your case that, until COVID, cost of living was significantly less expensive in the US during Donald's first term. COL was never, ever anything but spiraling out of control under Joe Biden, and Harris (evidently a stupid motherfucker) publicly confirmed she wouldn't have done anything differently.

    These people had a reason to think the economy would be better under Donald because they actually experienced it. Even with the grift and Donald being such a slimy son of a bitch.
