  • This is such a huge W for linux. It legitimizes linux as a real competitor in so many eyes.

  • I dont trust my friends not to pick up that call

  • Capitalism and capitalists were a major factor in lifting those people out of poverty by the way. credit markets, FDI, private firms, and export growth were all a reform away from communism towards capitalism and western style market economies. Its also lifted people out of poverty all around the world.

I dont like either of these side these people exist to seize power and maintain absolute control over people. They are both terrible which is why im comparing them and not trying to say one of them is actually good/not bad.

All I have to say is CCP propaganda really got people good. yall see a high speed train and a meh healthcare policy and are immediately ready to throw away your freedoms and morals. You're from Aus you have it better than China, you're richer, have better housing, better healthcare, better social security, better quality of life. All without needing to put all your trust and future in a Authoritarian leader. You have Albo, id kill to have Albo as PM.

  • How is it not a fair comparison? They want to remove all minorities - China removed/is removing ~8 different ethnic minorities, they want a surveillance state with total control - China has a surveillance state with total control, they want a full censored media - china has a fully censored media. The other things is they're willing to do whatever it takes to reach that goal just like china. All their end goals are basically a powerful group of unelected people ruling over everyone with total control. The cope they all tell themselves(including china) is that they'll be benevolent. I'm sick of seeing people hand wave all this just because they built a train and some houses(btw a lot of houses in china are shit, they're tiny and fall apart and the ones you actually want are still unaffordable).

Also corporations can operate however they want and that its just an overused meme to cite Dodge v. Ford as forcing them to maximize shareholder value.

  • Ok but you'd be ok with that since the ends justify the means to you.

  • Then why make the defense? Why jump in and "um actually this dictatorship was pretty good" if you arent trying to spuiking how fantastic china is. China doesnt have anything that other successful democracies dont have. As it stands China has done far worse than Carp, Thiel, Musk, Vance

  • So the ends justify the means? If that's the case then you basically agreed with these evil cunts because they claim their goals are for the good of people. They are dumb but they aren't describing a dystopia any more than China is a dystopia.

Personally i wouldn't go down the chinese route and kill 100 million people just to have the dogshit human rights, labour rights and environmental regulations and go from 50c to $1.20 a day.

  • Thats meaningless, Carp, thiel and musk could say the exact same thing

  • basically china

  • They're kinda past that phase and now need to show that they have sustainable revenue and user growth. From all the numbers I've seen they(open ai, Gemini, anthropic) have crazy numbers. Hundreds of millions of users paying $50 a month. It's not enough to cover training but it covers inference very nicely.

Then with agent bullshit they've managed to turn 1 prompt into 12 and bill the user for that extra so it's even more profitable than the monthly subscriptions.

  • The economics for daily use of inference seem to make sense. The cost of inference is highly profitable. The margins on inference around 80%. The lost money from power users is made up but the average user who doesn't user their tokens. They lose money on the free inference given away but that's marketing and getting used to people having the product there as a crutch. It's not the best business model but they can change it at any time and have vc cash to burn.

What doesn't make sense is recouping the investment cost of model training and building new data centers. Because the moat on a new model doesn't last long enough to recover its training cost.

  • This dude has got to be trolling otherwise he needs to be put in a mental institution.

  • I dont really understand the question so correct me if im misinterpreting.

Because (in most cases) kids lack wisdom even when they know a lot. The reason screen time is being limited is generally because they arent using it in healthy moderation. People arent telling kids to finish their plate when they have no issue finishing the plate.

Kids do need the rules and guidance because they do not have the life experience to make proper value judgements for things a long time into the future. Some kids do but most do not.

  • We need more radical freedom ballkickers in the world

  • We need to get Foss nerds in gov to put public funding towards the kinds of projects. Donations and corporate charity aren't enough

  • Checked out Radicle, pretty cool concept. Love to see stuff using the scuttlebutt protocol.
