I like city building games and puzzles. I like other things as well, but that's not important right now.

  • Sit for some time (recommended is 5-10 minutes, i do 2-5) picturing your thoughts as clouds passing overhead, observe what they are but don't judge yourself for thinking or feeling that thing.

Gives you more control over your own mind and how you react to things, makes you more focused in the long run. This is supposed to be a habit you can do 1 time each week or each day. It comes up in one of these brilliant videos - probably the first one listed.

Eventually you will start to welcome these moments of calm. I like to do it in the garden or the bath.

Pick up a small exercise you can do with no equipmemt at will, you can do this at home when you need to think or are worried about things. Motion is good for managing thoughts. E.G:

    • Squat unweighted as many times as you can, up to 100. Harder than it sounds and better for you than it sounds. (Source: YellowGuy on Youtube)
    • Use resistance bands just to make sure you've actually used your arm, back or leg muscles today (great if you work at home)

    • Swap inauthentic things for authentic things. E.g replace X and Tiktok with Fediverse equivalents :)))
    • try making new foods for yourself. Pickles and fermented things are good and pretty economical for what they would cost otherwise, and providss you with a healthy sugar free thing to snack on

    • Never bring a screen to bed with you and always try for 8 hours of sleep.
    • Go outdoors for sunlight and maybe a walk as soon as you've finished your wake up routine. [1 source (others exist): Huberman Labs "Optimal Sunlight Routine"
  • No. I kind of used to, growing up, because being lankier than all the other teenagers is kind of cumbersome and makes it hard to interact with the world around you, designed for smaller people. It's not that big a deal tbh.

I more wish that buses, cars and doorways were "me" sized.

Nowadays I feel plenty small. For people who are drawn to height, your height is never enough lol.

Edit: I've just remembered - bone problems. You know we get more bone problems because of how tall we are/how fast we grow? It's ridiculous.

  • still occasionally talk to the small community chat members on https://goontu.be/ which is run by some SomethingAwful forum members. People submit videos and it’s a watch party. It could turn into something more, I see the opportunities, I just don’t want to anymore but my point is you could.

Very intriguing! I'll need to check this out in more depth

  • I was interested in the discord for lemmy for this purpose (as mentioned in the sidebar) but the link doesn't really work right now.

If it's for meeting real life people, volunteer at some organisation or take part in a tighter-knit gym which does group workouts - one near me does outdoor bootcamps at the basketball court of our local park and does a pilates, yoga and "boxercise" club.

For volunteering, there's lots of interesting organisations you probably wouldn't know you can volunteer at; museums, art galleries, hospitals. Social Clubs, Libraries, community farms.

  • I think it was against my name because i actually missed the weight day and then they sent a nurse to get my weight another day.

I remember going to the doctors a lot as a kid, too, and being vaccinated whenever offered. Baffling. The most annoying thing really is that they want to know your vaccination history when you join university and I had no idea what exactly I'd taken, just that i'd taken everything.

Basically my childhood GP office must have just set fire to all their records or something.

  • Yes i did, and then they lost it or something stupid. Government claims i have no medical history prior to covid. UK.

This wasn't for a report card though, it was just because screening kids at school is more efficient. So it's like a survey of childhood health and in the process they can give vaccines or check for headlice.

  • If you like doing long paper working, a youtube channel called mind your decisions has a vast wealth of problems. Some of them are duplicates with different variables. If you turn on youtube history you can effectiveky mark off how many you have solved.

I think scientific american has short maths and logic puzzles publiahed maybe weekly or daily. https://www.scientificamerican.com/games/math-puzzles/

  • Did you need to take a degree to become a therapist?

  • From what I can tell, Larping and DnD stuff is rising in popularity and visibility, and I think this will improve people's ability to stell stories collaboratively.

(I actually don't play DnD myself but I like a bunch of media derived from that and LARPing)

Also if Hollywood could break up and film studios become smaller and more spread out I think that would help

  • Though if it has a commited official group of creators - it doesn't let random people write - it may well become a haven against AI. Anyone who actually wants to use AI will vainly try and create a narrative all by themselves, and those who commit to a project with others will disavow using it. It's certainly a big slap in the face to the other writers if you use it on a Collab project

  • I watched that video yesterday! I've been subbed to him for a year or so and rarely gotten around to finishing videos because they're very long, but it's a fascinsting wealth of content he has

  • Nopenopenope.

  • My local waterstones is a wonderful place.

  • Fuckin awesome

  • Never. Once you poop, you have to wipe clean.

  • I imagine that, if he hasn't (because shaped from clay or whatever) then it implies that the presence of a belly button in every other human is a "flaw," which is in-line with the idea of fallen creation.

That said, "made in God's image" does not mean resembling God. It means made as God's "imagers" - symbols of his power and keepers of his will. It's a concept inherent to every other early middle eastern religion; Idols of a deity, even as little statues, are exactly that. Yahweh didn't need statues because humans were his "statues".

    A mistranslation, unfortunately.
