I like city building games and puzzles. I like other things as well, but that's not important right now.

  • Yeah and i think some instances like piefed let you automatically avoid seeing bot content. (Only blocks accounts that have marked themselves as bots)

  • I was more daydreaming about what may have been, i.e if he killed people who deserved it. I don't cekebrste him because it's illegal to celebrste terrorists and there'a probably lots more to his actions than I might know about.

  • Man this just makes me womder what could have been. Could he have got bombs over to that island? Made everyone open them all at once around a dinner table?

    Rest in Power, Uncle Ted

  • My oh my. I need to study up on my TierZoo. Nothing with a "bite through trees" ability will avoid using it on humans.

  • We need to leave beavers alone. If i want to smell one i'll go find one in the wild and cuddle it

  • Red dwarf stars also flare more frequently than our Sun, unleashing waves of ultraviolet and X-ray radiation that is harmful to life as we know it. If the Sun can strip off Mars’ water and dense atmosphere from a huge distance, planets like Proxima b lying about 30 times closer to furiously flaring stars could lose their atmospheres in just a hundred million years. To make matters worse, such planets being tidally locked means their molten interiors likely churn slowly, generating feeble or no magnetic fields. This deprives the planets from the kind of radiation protection that is so effective here on Earth and contributes to its proliferation of life.

In 2014, NASA's Swift mission caught a red dwarf emitting a flare 10,000 times more powerful than any ever expelled by our Sun. Most newly born red dwarfs may emit such mega-flares, perhaps in revolt against us having judged them on size. The intense radiation from these mega-flares could prevent life from ever arising on nearby planets.

Well, this makes Red Dwarf a very aptly named vessel and TV program...

  • No. I think the whole university landscape will be different in the future. Employers have to realise that thia "study abroad" elitism is going to come crashing down.

And in the mean time, screw organisations that prioritise foreign unis over domestic unis in hiring. World would be so much better if i wasn't competing against the rest of the world for university places or jobs in my own tiny country. (No offense to the international students of course.)

Studying in your home country gives you an advantage in enjoying life, getting work alongside uni and being able to navigate all the little things. I hope you enjoy it.

Edited because i failed to read closely enough at first.

  • So every time a new body is interred they can make themselves a little batch of human meat honey, as a treat.

  • We must argue that it's discriminatory against sex havers

  • This is so fucking stupid because doesn't he tell people all the time on his call show that its fine for them to "shack up" and not be married? Different advice for the public audience to people he knows in real life. How odd.

  • Google the phrase a number of documents and travel blogs come up suggesting it's a real thing. Also this reddit thread which you can translate from portuguese to learn the hiatory of why

This might just be a case of english speaking wiki writiers being lazy when it comes to foreign place articles.

"Because during the 'Liberal Wars' it suffered several sieges and was never taken, and it ended up being a very important starting point for the victory of Dom Pedro IV, who intended to secure the throne for Queen Maria II, who later bestowed the title of 'Ancient, very noble, always loyal, and Invicta (Unvanquished)' upon the city of Porto."

  • What's sad is that i don't remember a lot of my dreams. I really like having dreams.

What makes a dream a bit weird for me is if it's prophetic in some way. E.g:

I dreamed i was helping a friend re-enroll in university, then i walked outside of the building while he did it and saw a bunch of my high school friends hurriedly walking past in a public square as a group. I go to talk to them and they're almost all ignoring me, apart from one who takes the time to snidely insult/chastise me.

What i remember as being just a week later, in real life, i was forced to cut them all of, so i regard this as one of the biggest examples of a prophetic dream that i've had.

I guess a sceptic would say that the dream influenced my decision, or indicated i was already having my doubts about them or annoyed for some reason, but i personally wouldn't say the latter is true. And i only remembered the dream a short while after i did that and the realisation creeped me out.

That one gets weirder because after that point it became a very long dream where i wander out into the posh suburbs of my city, which are very leafy and forested, then get lost in their old-fashioned maze-like streets, til I come across a weird alleyway where there are ethereal beings who just want to have sex with me a lot. This bit of the dream didn't come true. Yet.

I've been having dreams where i sit down to watch the latest marvel show but my brain makes up something fairly different to what actually occurs.

First time i remember this happening was my brain completely making up a plot for "secret invasion" where aliens were boarding a space station outside of earth, looking for some secret information they held there. Because they were going to steal it from the ship computers or interrogate people on board, the space station is set to be rapidly disassembled by nanobots. The same thing happens to the people on board but they're alive while it is happening to them and that's one of the most horrible things my brain has made me think up. Please note this doesn't resemble what actually happens in the show, which i also haven't actually watched.

[Spoilers] Latest time this happened was the night when/the night before the night when DD:BA season 2 released in my time zone. What i was watching in my dream revisited the death of Daniel Blake, but in this show it was Fisk who confronted him instead of Buck.

Fisk killed Daniel by breaking the bones of his limbs with his cane and then pulling his brokenbones out from his mangled legs. Was disgusted and depressed that they showed such gore on the show in my dream, and then the finale had fisk killing protestors in gruesome ways willy nilly, so i guess it was semi-prophetic.

I'm no good at recalling dreams so i will have had some much weirder ones. I think one reason i don't remember a lot is because they're scary, violent or involve fighting people.

  • Whether OP realises it or not, that is definitely a valid way of interpreting "people who pretend to know things" . I think there's somehow some miscommunication in this thread

  • Yep i think there might be, tbh! Good catch.

But one reason we might not have many phrases in english for "people who pretend to know things" is because we simply say "fraud" or "fake." We can tag these adjectives omto whatever the thing they're pretending to be is; "fake football fan," "Fraud Accountant."

The fact we uae "fraud" and "fake" may indicate a few of these possibilities:

    • maybe it was historically only important to accuse someone of fake skill credentials rather than knowledge credentials, since mandatory public education is a recent thing. People can learn from wondering things out loud. Pretending to be a stonemason, however - i.e being a fraud - can get people killed or ruin the task at hand and waste money & resources.

    • maybe academics and intellectual people in general are just more accepting, hence don't insult people for their lack of learning very much / in an academic contdxt anyway you'd be more precise and say "you need tk evidence x y and z or you need to improve kmowledgebase in C and Z areas."

    #3

    • Maybe we use ruder words like "moron, r-word, imbecile" when people show up a lack of knowledge in something.
    • also when you catch someone out for lying or being inaccurate, you have to prove they're wrong, stating/demonstrating how they're wrong. Phrases like "smart alec" come from a place of frustration and embarassment at not knowing the aubject matter as well as the target

By the way, the way i've seen it used, smart alec actually means "You're dismissing the matter at hand to flaunt your intelligence." It's not just from a place of insecurity - in fact i've rarely seen it used like that.

  • Sit for some time (recommended is 5-10 minutes, i do 2-5) picturing your thoughts as clouds passing overhead, observe what they are but don't judge yourself for thinking or feeling that thing.

Gives you more control over your own mind and how you react to things, makes you more focused in the long run. This is supposed to be a habit you can do 1 time each week or each day. It comes up in one of these brilliant videos - probably the first one listed.

Eventually you will start to welcome these moments of calm. I like to do it in the garden or the bath.

Pick up a small exercise you can do with no equipmemt at will, you can do this at home when you need to think or are worried about things. Motion is good for managing thoughts. E.G:

    • Squat unweighted as many times as you can, up to 100. Harder than it sounds and better for you than it sounds. (Source: YellowGuy on Youtube)
    • Use resistance bands just to make sure you've actually used your arm, back or leg muscles today (great if you work at home)

    • Swap inauthentic things for authentic things. E.g replace X and Tiktok with Fediverse equivalents :)))
    • try making new foods for yourself. Pickles and fermented things are good and pretty economical for what they would cost otherwise, and providss you with a healthy sugar free thing to snack on

    • Never bring a screen to bed with you and always try for 8 hours of sleep.
    • Go outdoors for sunlight and maybe a walk as soon as you've finished your wake up routine. [1 source (others exist): Huberman Labs "Optimal Sunlight Routine"
  • No. I kind of used to, growing up, because being lankier than all the other teenagers is kind of cumbersome and makes it hard to interact with the world around you, designed for smaller people. It's not that big a deal tbh.

I more wish that buses, cars and doorways were "me" sized.

Nowadays I feel plenty small. For people who are drawn to height, your height is never enough lol.

Edit: I've just remembered - bone problems. You know we get more bone problems because of how tall we are/how fast we grow? It's ridiculous.
