I don't read DMs.

  • At best, you can conclude that AI is no substitute at all for a lack of knowledge and working institutional processes.

I think AI can stand in for a lack of knowledge and working institutional processes. I think they're a pretty good match.

  • She heard about the dog firing the shotgun in the truck.

  • Americans deserve shit for a lot that's going on right now, but the "they build houses out of cardboard and sticks" thing has never been exclusive to America. Also, there are plenty of drawbacks to building houses out of bricks and concrete.

  • Doesn't even rise to "hypothesis".

But, they're never talking to us no matter how public the statement, they only talk to their major shareholders.

  • GIMP really should just copy the Photoshop interface. PhotoGIMP helps a little bit, but not much.

  • My Logitech K800 has an Fn key. I never paid any attention to it till just now. It works in Linux Mint, but they don't do anything I care about. Another problem is the awkward placement of the Fn key, and that I've never learned the F-key placement by touch.

They are on F1 through F12:

Home, which takes my current open tab to the home page in Firefox, it would be better if it opened a new Home tab.

Email, which opens the default email client. I don't know if I can set Gmail to open instead of Thunderbird, probably, but I don't use email much.

A magnifying glass icon, which I assume is search, but doesn't seem to do anything.

An alt-tab app switching duplicate. The alt-tab key combo is easier to reach.

Two buttons for controlling the backlight brightness. Set once to the lowest setting and never use it again.

A button to check keyboard battery charge level. There's a tray icon that does the same thing

A PC power button, which I didn't try.

And four buttons for controlling a video player that work in VLC. There are already single-key shortcuts in VLC to do those things.

Also, I've tried in the past to come up with some use for macro key apps, and just haven't been able to. They seem nice on paper, but I just don't have a use for such things.

  • Breath of fresh air, this.

I don't know how UI design is taught in school, etc. but this should be it. It's clear that it's not, or the designers are being forced by the people with money to ignore what they've been taught.

Idiots with money ruin everything. Don't give idiots money.

  • Rarely, and never to the machine itself, but some asshole who shows up.

I don't get mad at machines. That's like getting mad at a fork for not being a spoon.

  • An arroyo runs through my neighborhood (dry river bed). The kids ride their dirt bikes through it. I noticed a couple of years ago a few kids had electric versions. They're very quiet, and the kids have just as much fun, it seems. I was happy to see that.

We still have the small-dicks who rev their cars, trucks, and bikes on their way to work every morning, though. Probably the same fools who set off near-professional grade fireworks every night for several days around the 4th of July. It used to be only on the 4th, but now it spreads across a week, plus New Years, and Veterans Day and Memorial Day.

Can't wait for genetic modification that gives every male the same size dick.

  • The filthy rich destroy everything they touch.

  • I've made a bed a handful of times in my life. The one time I remember specifically was when I had my first girlfriend over to my house when I was 17.

If you don't want to make your bed, don't do it. After 60 years of not making my bed, I've suffered zero ill effects.

  • Came into the comments expecting people would pile on boomers, as per usual. Was pleasantly surprised to find that most people are getting the message that it's a class war.

The idea that boomers are "hoarding America's wealth and power" is ludicrous.

I'm GenX, and I'm trying to pay off my house, so my son will have the option of being a homeowner when I die. I think it might be the only chance he'll have.

  • Billionaires care ONLY about themselves, not even their own families, just themselves. And, in that regard, they care mostly about accumulating more power (money). You might think, 'if it's power they want, why don't more of them run for political office?' Because, the politicians work for the billionaires, also, billionaires want power without responsibility.

No one should be surprised Billionaires support the far right.

  • Still cost me the same amount it always has.

  • Bullshit.

  • Right, but if he's geeking out, and I'm learning something, a couple of hours would be fine. Not that any doctor would spend that long on such a thing.

  • 1.1 Jiggawatts? Pshaw, not even one lightning bolt.
