Exactly why I dislike people anthropomorphizing robots like vacuum cleaners and delivery bots. They aren't "cute", they're shitty little monsters spying on us.
If you see a delivery bot stuck in a pothole, don't help it. Better yet, tip the thing over.
If you use a robot vacuum, make sure it's not uploading video and sound, if you can.
Don't trust these damn things. Why would you?
Recently, I had Xfinity fiber installed. I cancelled it the same day. I discovered that I can't run my own hardware, I'm required to run theirs (and pay $15/mo. for the privilege.) And, their wifi router tracks body location inside the home.
When the feature is enabled, you’ll receive a push notification if movement is detected in your coverage zone.
I have no doubt this is true, but they don't say that when the feature is disabled, they aren't still getting the data, just that you aren't. Enabling it enables the notifications, disabling doesn't disable the tech, just your awareness of it.
I had to return the hardware to a store, they asked why I cancelled, and when I tried to explain this to the kid behind the counter, he blew me off as paranoid. Okay, fair enough, but take your damn hardware back, I don't want it.
I'd moved out of state by the time the first one came around. Seemed like a lot of bother and expense to see people I didn't keep in touch with otherwise.
Yep, I had a GE from 1984. It was a "Spacemaker". I stupidly gave it away after 30 years because I decided I wanted a bigger one. That's when I learned that new appliances suck. I'm on my third microwave since then. I have no doubt the one I gave away is still working.
The problem with every laser printer is, eventually, they'll stop making toner cartridges for them. That's what made my perfectly serviceable Samsung printer garbage.
I was looking today at buying a cheap Brother laser printer, for the rare times when I want to print something. But, I saw that it was introduced in 2019, and I can just imagine what will happen. I still might get it and just stock up on cartridges, I haven't decided.
Good idea on the washer. My washer and dryer are both 27 years old. Just basic Whirlpool models. I've repaired both myself a few times, it's not hard, and there are directions for every problem online.
New appliances are shit, now. I dread having to replace my fridge. It's about 25 years old and still works perfectly, but nothing lasts forever.
I'll definitely be looking at old used in appliances before buying new from now on. Same for cars.
It's 92F in my house at 9% humidity. I have my ceiling fan, and an iced coffee. I'm good. I moved to the desert because I hate humidity. I still sweat here, but it's not nearly as bad as California in the summer. I think I might literally die in Florida in the summer, I've never been to Florida and I never want to go, for many reasons, including the humidity.
Winter here isn't too bad, mostly it's the short days and overcast that gets me. Windy cold days are the worst.
Six months out of the year are great, six months not as great, but still better weather here than anywhere I can afford to live, so I'll stay here.

The ideal number of ingredients on a package is one. The more ingredients, the farther away from healthy you're moving (with one obvious exception being sugar, that's one ingredient, and still bad for you, I expect you to be able to parse this on your own without being pedantic.)
What's in the bag? Blueberries, broccoli, milk, chicken, spinach, brussel sprouts, olive oil, etc. One thing only. Process the food yourself, that is cook it. That's how you know you're eating healthfully, that's the only way.
Here's the thing, capitalism demands profit, the more processing goes into food, the more people standing between you and your meal, the higher the cost, and the lower the quality. They all need to get paid, and the people at the top still demand a profit. That needs to come from somewhere, and that somewhere is, in large part, from the quality of the food, plus poor working conditions.
Thinking about my most recent desire to have a printer, which I haven't had in many years, I was building a bed, and it would have been nice to have a cut sheet printout to take to the garage. Instead, I used my tablet, which worked well enough.
It's so rare that I use paper for taking notes, I have to track down something to write on, often it's an envelope.
It'd be nice to have a printer around for occasional use, but I'm afraid the ink would dry up between uses.
It also mostly gets hands and feet right now, in images. It's a constantly moving target, and it does get better at some things.
One thing it still can't get right, though, is a classroom full of chairs and desks. It just can't figure out that chairs need backs, four legs and desks have different style legs, etc.:
