So, this is the place where I'm going to be generally hanging out and trolling around, while my Pixelfed, Mastodon, and Blacksky accounts are going to be primarily art posting accounts, and I also have a Nooki account.

I'm also going to start to be active more on here than on lemmy.org, so I'm making this my primary Lemmy account now.

I'll link the other socials I'm varying levels of active on below, plus my lemmy.org account which I'm demoting to my secondary account if that instance is going to be more unstable from now on.

  • Buneary, or Pichu and Dedenne would be fun, and really cute, to hang out with, too.

Ooh, or even Glaceon especially as it could literally make snow to play in whenever it wants, at least so long as it's cold enough outside for it to not melt.

Happiny would be a fun one too to decorate rocks with. Happiny running around with a rock painted up as a mini-me of herself in her pouch would be adorable.

  • The Pokemon universe would be kinda fun just to have one of the creatures there as someone to chill with.

For sure me and Jigglypuff would end up in marker scribble fights pretty frequently.

  • How soon before the rest of the web chases ad blockers away?

  • Redlib still works, but it's read-only (not a problem for me, I killed my Reddit account last year), and it's probably a matter of time before that's killed off too.

  • Did those users not hear they can dodge Age Verification by using a different Bluesky compatible app?

And beyond that, it's not like you can't migrate to Blacksky or another third-party PDS, or even host your own PDS if you have the hardware and admin chops for it, although you can also self-host on the Fediverse too, and there's thousands of instances on the Fediverse vs. a handful on ATproto, plus other than Blacksky who are supposedly completely independent from Bsky's corporate infrastructure, most third-party PDSes and pretty much all self-hosted PDSes still have to interact with Bsky's corporate infrastructure at some point where if you host a Fediverse instance, you own the whole thing.

  • If Bluesky dies and the users go back to Twitter, they never believed in anything more than ‘I want to be part of the herd.’

    • If ATproto (I migrated to Blacksky last year when Bsky made an unpopular ToS change) dies, I also have a Mastodon account I've been active on lately although my Mastodon account predates my ATproto account by a couple years, that I'll happily move to full time, I killed my Twitter months ago because I wasn't even active on there anymore anyways plus the baggage associated with that platform now, and I don't plan on setting another one back up.
  • That's the whole idea. Buy up all the silicon production, go public, tank and take the rest of the tech industry down with you, and rule the world.

  • As for Pixelfed:

It's like Instagram but you actually have agency over your content and you're not at the whim of Meta's corporate censorship.

  • The loudness war, widely believed to have been kicked off by Oasis in '95 with (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, has been effectively ruining mastering for 30+ years because almost everything has been brickwalled since then.

  • Once again, thanks Madoff Altman for buying up all the chip supply just to monopolize it. I'm never gonna let that go.

  • ....Social connections for future business.

    • What business would want to associate with groups who spend most of their time getting shitfaced, destroying property, (they typically don't own their frat houses), and in the worst case whose hazing rituals have resulted in deaths?
  • Avoid frats if you can help it based on the horror stories associated with them.

  • And this is on purpose. The next step is a state intranet accessed by thin clients tied to your ID or face, where you can only say what the state approves for you to say or see what the state approves for you to see.

And finally you won't be allowed to own your own devices anymore.

Welcome to NK, because that's what the US is turning into. On that note, kiss your rights goodbye, Americans, because they no longer exist.

  • If you're signing up for ATproto, I'd avoid Bsky and go for Blacksky instead. Although on Blacksky, the two public PDSes you can pick are cryptoanarchy.network and myatproto.social.

Also, Bsky has been trying to push ID lately while Blacksky isn't yet, but there's the chance that Bsky corporate could start to get hostile against Blacksky and other third parties and start to block them at some point.

  • Another attack on device ownership if this leads to all-out firmware locks

  • A PC would be the better option longterm in terms of owning the hardware especially as PS is going all-digital and given Sony's track record of pulling people's supposedly-purchased content at will.

  • I don't know how mainstream they really are, but the BSDs, maybe? NetBSD in particular publicly bans AI code from their codebase in their Commit Guidelines as tainted code, and I imagine the rest of the BSDs other than maybe MidnightBSD have a similarly hostile stance against AI code to NetBSD. I especially could easily imagine OpenBSD being hostile against AI code given their longstanding security reputation.

Linux seems to be getting pretty friendly to AI code with Linus himself even shaming people who are anti-AI, so I don't know how much longer it's gonna hold up for as even if individual distros may be anti-AI, they still have to deal with upstream decisions from the kernel devs.

  • Move to the Lemmy or Piefed ASAP. At least then you not only have more freedom generally, eg. if you don't like one instance or vice-versa, you could move to another, but you can also host your own if you have the hardware and the admin chops for it.

For now you could still read Reddit with one of the few Redlib instances that are still active left, but even then it's a matter of time before that's blocked.

I killed my Reddit account the moment they announced they were going to be pushing more censorship last year and I haven't looked back. Figured that I might as well leave that sinking ship before I'm inevitably banned for something stupid on there, because had I stayed on Reddit, I would've been banned for some stupid made-up offense eventually. Basically, my reasoning boiled down to...

I'm leaving this place one way or another, I might as well leave on my own now before I'm forced out later.
