So, this is the place where I'm going to be generally hanging out and trolling around, while my Pixelfed, Mastodon, and Blacksky accounts are going to be primarily art posting accounts, and I also have a Nooki account.

I'm also going to start to be active more on here than on lemmy.org, so I'm making this my primary Lemmy account now.

I'll link the other socials I'm varying levels of active on below, plus my lemmy.org account which I'm demoting to my secondary account if that instance is going to be more unstable from now on.

  • Ahh... Amber Turd, the bed shitter.

  • Old phone outlet.

  • Damn, first legitimately good thing I've seen come out of that country in a while as far as legislation is concerned.

  • Good thing Matrix and XMPP exist as alternatives.

If I start getting straight-up locked out of Discord unless I show my face or ID, I'mma just stop using it full stop.

I mean, shit, Discord's already getting ridiculous with their Nitro ads. No, Discord, I don't want Nitro, stop asking me. No needs to start meaning no again.

  • Mud daubers or damselflies in a 'Ghibli characters come to life' way. Those things look like they flew straight out of a Ghibli flick.

  • That also probably drives the Fediverse's adoption as well because people are tired of getting walled in by hostile corporations.

  • If you don't have a lot of content to move over, and rarely post, I'm pretty happy on peertube.wtf, however there's a 100GB limit and you can only upload 10GB a day. Meanwhile if you're at active YTer with a lot of content, CuddlyTube also seems pretty good from a cursory glance and has no upload limits. Oh, and if you're considering MakerTube, they're paywalled now because of some shit going on at Hetzner, so let that be your warning for going with that instance, and spectra.video's also considering paywalling for the same reason that MakerTube is paywalled.

You could also self-host if you have the hardware on hand or can afford the VPS to, and you have the admin skills to pull it off.

  • and it’s likely any project that integrates it, with be “extinguished” via legal action in the future.

That would mean killing the entire internet whose servers run Linux, because the kernel is messing with AI now.

  • Madoff Altman is at it again.

  • If you're a creator who still primarily or exclusively posts to Twitter after Nitter was killed off, you're not gonna have an audience outside of Twitter anymore moving forward. Meanwhile Mastodon will let people see or even interact with your content without a Mastodon account as anyone can see a public post without an account, period, and anyone with an account on any ActivityPub or ActivityPub-compatible platform can interact with Mastodon posts.

If you want to post your own content on a public instance, you do need an account for that, though, or you can self-host.

But basically, if you're still posting exclusively to Twitter, you won't have an audience outside of Twitter anymore, while someone on PIxelfed could interact with a Mastodon post or vice-versa, for example.

  • You think Meta is generating most of it themselves to intentionally stoke Islamophobia? They're evil enough to do that and they have a past history of this sorta thing.

  • Hypothetically a given public media service could host their own Fediverse instance if they can afford to maintain it, and they should if they can pull it off.

  • They'd be a fun snow generator too, though, provided the outside weather is already cold enough to support snow, that is.

Ooh, Charmander could use his Flamethrower attack to fire hardened and glazed pottery in a pottery class too. Who needs a kiln in the Pokemon world when the finished pots can be placed in a pit for a cute little fire lizard to use his Flamethrower attack to fire them instead? Surely someone's depicted this in fanart already and I'm not the only one to think of it.

  • Maybe the reason Mastodon never got off the ground is because Bsky basically strangled them by popping up out of nowhere and stealing their potential userbase?

  • Beyond that, the fact that Bsky came up out of nowhere and ate Mastodon's lunch around that time just reeks of hostility to me.

  • No, AFAIK they still push ads on you whether you're monetized or not.

Goodbye device ownership, and the last vestiges of free speech will die with this bill as well.

How feasible would it be to host Mastodon, Pixelfed, Lemmy, Friendica, or Matrix over Tor/I2P?
