  • In my country, an O and a 0 count as the same letter/digit on a licence plate. Same with B and 8. I think there's a few others. There are no two plates that only have the difference of these similar characters, the use of one counts as the other.

    I'm finding it hard to explain, but I hope that makes sense.

  • I think they are saying that the circumference of a wheel can be any arbitrary measurement, you just change the size of the wheel. So how can that be notably different from having a straight ruler the same length as whatever that circumference is?

  • I think an element of being scared is surprise and the unknown.

    When something is done well it gets copied and becomes a cliche, then it's no longer scary. Old movies are where the cliches come from, so revising them no longer packs the surprise and unknown from when they were first released. The movies you watch today might be scary, but in a few decades when they've been mimicked a few times they will no longer hold that potency.

    So, in a way, yes, older movies tend to no longer be scary. I think some of it is also learning the film making techniques. When we watch the behind the scenes of an actor in a suit, it makes the film lose some of that unknown.

    That sucks but at least they allow it, and I guess you could argue this helps fight against scammers? Sort of?

  • FFXVI doesn't have a minimap because the director thought it wasn't immersive to have one. So now I'm opening the map menu every 30 seconds to figure out which part of the slightly flooded swamp can be walked on. So immersive.

    That game made it feel like you were punished for trying to explore.

  • I liked The Happening.

    Whether it was intentional or not, there's a really interesting metaphor for the 24/7 news cycle, the need to blame something, and the state of the world. There's so much in there to think about but most of the audience just thought "plants make people kill themselves? That's too silly". In my mind it isn't the plants; no one knows, but the need to get the first headline, or feel in control is so great that people get frantic, panicky, and dangerous.

  • I suppose it didn't help that I played Stranger of Paradise first, which has a very fun and varied battle system. If that feeling of battle was in ff16 I think I'd rank it much higher.

    It's ok. The battle is a touch better, but honestly if you're going to do a DMC mimicry do it all the way. I'm pretty disappointed that a game about collecting different eikons has zero elemental stat effects. I'm vaguely enjoying it but so far it's ranking pretty low on the list of FFs that I'm emotionally attached to.

  • I was one of the people that wasn't mystified by HL2. It was cool, but it was just a spectacle of good graphics and the gravity gun.

    I felt they really mucked around with the story laid out by the first game, it barely felt related. Like, Independence Day 2 vibes.
