  • I skipped the 17 which was supposed to be my partner’s upgrade. I am anticipating regretting that decision.

  • It’s crazy and the chips that are ostensibly taking up all the dram are sitting on shelves waiting for data centres to be built so that they can be racked.

  • No dependents? Big.

Do you have shelter and food accounted for in a reliable way? That’s really what matters.

  • Fun fact: rats can’t vomit.

  • We need a mole in that organisation feeding government entities the ideas that are discarded for cost.

  • A division of the marketing division no doubt. Like the environmental department at most companies.

  • Universities are supposed to teach understanding, and research skills. AI shortcuts are the antithesis of understanding.

  • Runk

    Jump
  • I think it’s worth noting there’s few people like Jobs and more like Gates but they’re all psychopaths.

  • I wish I was their credit card, because then I might finally be in a happy relationship with someone who loves to use me this hard.

    Gonna need to remember that.

  • The thing that interests me is that a local business person would see this law and say “fine, no porn”. Remember, when Yahoo bought tumblr, they sank it by banning porn!

So to me this suggests they can’t figure out how to make their LLM reliably not produce pornography.

  • Apple’s AI strategy is leaving them behind

Apple’s stock drops on failure to meet AI promises

    Etc.

    Now whose stock is dropping?

  • Imagine thinking a LLM can create new research.

There’s a problem with an overabundance of PhD candidates. There’s a massive reproducibility crisis. Journals are a for profit enterprise.

LLMs certainly amplify these problems. Is it the end of advanced education? I’m sceptical. There are still people who are resisting the adoption of these tools and doing things the hard way.

  • I remember reading a presser about how this cloud vendor was using robots for all kinds of tasks in their datacentre and it was super efficient because automation. But it never actually happened. They still have humans racking servers. The last 10% is hard.

  • Well, a few years ago it was $9.99, and in a few years it’ll be $12.99. That extra dollar indeed is a problem.

  • There’s a bunch of legislation and case law saying that searches are OK within x (50?) miles of a border crossing which covers something like 90% of the population because they count international airports.

So it might get sticky for the person.

  • SpaceX will be worth more than Earth if we achieve our goals," stating without evidence that his extremely far-fetched prediction was "obviously true."

Musk has been spending too much time with a sycophantic ego stroking LLM.

  • It’s a macabre idea at best but to make it intentionally similar to a real person is grotesque.

  • Without googling the specs, are those two on a different channel? ie the chipset has 6 and then another chip handles 2 or vice versa

  • I’m going on holidays tomorrow. Should I take a gamble?
