In the fediverse since 2017. I mostly talk sports. If something on the internet doesn't spark joy, mute it.

  • Sometimes you can tell Zach is very active on Bluesky -- they've been yelling at each other about a study where people were offering $50k vs a 50% chance at $10m that I am very grateful hasn't been getting play on fedi.

    edit: what have I done

edit 2: to be fair they are actually fighting over $50k vs $1m and I just have a terrible memory

  • Scotch bonnets and peaches

  • They’re like, a whole different person with different wants and needs than me, so like, I have to listen to them and communicate and sometimes I even have to do things I don’t want to just because they do? It’s all very annoying and it would be much easier if they just thought and did everything just the way I wanted all the time.

  • These sloperators don't bother to learn anything about software development, and then act like when they make a mistake, it's somehow unknowable mystery due to an architectural failure. A value in a .env file is: required, secret, not safe to commit, restricted to only one service, and available only in the current environment. If you have prod keys on your dev box for multiple services, you got it wrong, and that's not the .env file's fault.

KEY=value cannot say whether a value is required, secret, safe to commit, available only in production, or restricted to one service.

  • I would be much more persuaded by this argument if someone could draw a connection between my internal experience of anger and a Palestinian's internal experience of being chill and happy. Do donations made in anger count double or something?

  • Most of the hobby instances I like are mastodon instances. I particularly like dice.camp, the ttrpg instance.

  • I think if ATProto implements communities in a way fhat is compatible with threadiverse communities, we'll see a huge influx on the strength of Bluesky advertising.

  • To each their own. I’m glad you posted it because I enjoyed reading it.

  • Dexterity is dodging when someone throws a tomato at you for telling an unfunny joke at open mic night (and also successfully weaving your tomato plant into a cage or trellis).

  • It’s a good article and a poor match for this community, imo.

  • I’m assuming when you say “sports equipment” you mean for players, rather than fans, but if I’m wrong about that you can safely ignore me.

I like being a big billboard for my favorite sports teams because other fans stop me and talk to me about my team, the league, and the sport. It’s like socializing on easy mode. I was wearing a Sounders jersey in Vienna and a group of guys stopped me to ask how Andreas Ivanschitz was doing for us, and it was the most genuine interaction I had with an Austrian on my whole trip.

  • I’ve always loved mon petit chou chou which is roughly “my little cabbage cabbage” from French. I also like jannu, which I think is “my soul” in Urdu? Also solnyshko, little sun, from the Russian, is very fun.

  • It's more that the internet demands that I'm constantly outraged, but I want to spend the majority of my time being chill and happy. I can get my dander up for most things the internet wants me to be mad about, I just... don't.

  • I'm assuming to the UK, and feeling somewhat jealous (and also your display name is incredible)

  • On the one hand, I know that the long tail of smaller instances are important to the health of the fediverse, but on the other it seems like it would be fun to see my instances on the defederation flowchart and the alt text leaderboard and stuff. Plusses and minuses, I suppose.

  • Never change, Arizona

"Like the Roman Catholic Church taking over old Rome ruins"

  • Okay, technically they are correct that liabilities and debts are two different parts of a balance sheet, but the original piece is a pop economy piece intended for a general audience, and it gave that audience a good intuition about what the underlying economics are. This is just splitting hairs about how jargon is deployed when talking to laypeople

The five balance sheets do add to $1.3500 trillion, but only if every liability is treated as debt.
