Do not yell at me simply because I am in front of you and the people responsible for the problems are not. It is extremely unpleasant.

  • Iirc there's a couple on 6th between Lenora and Olive. We've had enough tech companies here long enough there are a few older ones around the city, which are much smaller than these new ones for LLMs.

  • Yeah. In the summer Russians have big tanker trucks of kvass on the streets, similar to what we use to transport gasoline in here in the states, and you bring like an empty two liter and give em a coin and they fill it up for you.

  • The Seattle Times reported five separate data centers that were planned within the Seattle metro, adding up to something like half the total power we consume in the city currently. The prevalence of cheap hydro power in the pnw has made it a desirable destination for data centers.

  • Okroshka. It’s a Russian summer soup served cold and slightly effervescent made with ham, boiled potatoes, raw cucumbers and radishes, served in a “broth” made of kvass (children’s beer made from fermented black rye bread) with a little smetana or buttermilk and oh my god so much dill. It’s still a pretty strange dish to me after having eaten it many times.

  • There are some pretty specific teachings in mormianity that mainstream Christians point at to claim Mormons aren't Christian. If you're interested in the specifics, most if it comes from the King Follett discourse and the subsequent Adam-God doctrine, but the short version is that Mormons believe that God used to be a person like you and I, and has his own God, like a GrandGod for us, and that sufficiently good humans can become a God like him, like God Jr. Many Christians think this belief diminishes the role of God and Christ, since they aren't particularly special, just one more link in an eternal chain.

  • Yeah for sure. My brain doesn't do a great job of categorizing words into languages, more just "native" or "foreign," so if I'm studying a new language, I have a tendency to drift to my strongest nonnative language. Turns out it's very confusing for people if you start a sentence in French and end it in Russian.

  • Depends on what's available. Dubs are high ceiling/low floor, whereas subs are low ceiling/high floor, so when both are available, I try the dub first and if the dub is bad I fail over to the sub.
