  • I definitely agree with you about riding on country roads, but I love in the PNW and was thinking more about being closer to mountain bike trails out in the woods as far away from cars as I can be.

There are also some cities around that have good bike infrastructure where they're at least common enough in the city that people watch out for them or even better there are dedicated bike paths up on the curb so you're not just separated from traffic by a white strip of paint on the ground.

  • Ive been having to guess on some things with home cooked meals since I'm not using a kitchen scale but I've been able to just google "100g of salmon" or guesstimate by cups or tablespoons and think its close enough. I try to err on the side of inputting higher than I think just so that I'm not having more fat or sodium than I should.

This is a big lifestyle change for me so having all this data is really helpful.

  • It is somewhat annoying (mainly figuring out serving sizes) but I do it while I'm eating and it makes me eat more slowly. It looks like you can also make your own meals or recipes, which includes all the individual items into one entity to enter in one go. I have to watch my fat intake so I don't know if keto would be right for me though I do know a few people who swear by it.

  • If you're someone like me who has never really paid attention to what you're eating so long as you aren't rapidly packing on weight, I recently downloaded an app called Cronometer after being told by my doctor that my blood pressure and cholesterol are too high and to lose weight.

I've been tracking everything I eat and have managed to keep myself between 1000 and 1500 calories a day along with monitoring my fat, carbs, sodium, and protein intake. It has been insanely eye opening to see and feel the difference after cutting out the daily burgers, pizza, and fried foods and its only been like a week and a half. Seeing the numbers in the app makes it almost like a game to see how little fat and calories I can eat each meal/day and shocking to see what is contained with a typical meal that I used to eat (easily 2-3 days worth of fat and calories compared to what I'm eating now in just one meal).

In any case, if you want to eat better, try finding something that let's you tally up what you're eating. From there it's as simple as finding better alternatives (like a low fat dressing instead of regular dressing, or chicken/fish instead of beef/pork) or replacing just one meal a day with something healthier.

  • Yeah but how many jobs are available as a professional child abductor? This doesn't seem feasible for most people.

  • I wouldn't mind biking if I didn't live in a city. Years ago back when I was going to college, I decided to ride my bike the one mile to school and made it about 2 weeks before crashing to avoid being hit by a car.

  • I, as of yet, haven't really explored any alternatives, but I see a lot of others mentioned in the comments here.

  • DuckDuckGo is just Microslop Bing with a different front-end.

  • I think i paid $75 or $90 probably a decade ago or more now and think it was worth it, and still use it, but $750 is just nuts. At this price, they clearly don't want anyone actually buying it but without having to face the backlash of outright removing the option altogether. I would imagine one of their next steps will be to remove or restrict people like me who bought it long ago. We'll probably get locked to a specific version that comes out right before some major update that fixes long held issues that people have complained about for years.

I would switch to Jellyfin but Plex makes sharing secure and easy and it is full of great features for the price I paid long ago. I also have a lifetime pass with Emby that I bought during a dark period of Plex but they also went closed source (which spawned Jellyfin into existence) and always felt much less refined than Plex in most areas.

  • Can't read the whole article but this guy is clearly a moron. People can choose to not carry a phone with them but nobody chooses warrantless surveillance being conducted and paid for directly by the government

  • Lol and he's a Democrat who served as a cabinet member during Biden's presidency (in the same role that RFK Jr is currently 'serving'). We really need to stop supporting either one of these parties as they're both rotten to the core.

  • Just because there is no pre-planned, external meaning doesn't mean your life has no meaning.

Many people find meaning in family, friends, careers, projects, experiences, or just general enjoyment of life.

  • Its the heat that kills them so this could be minimized with the cooling systems EVs use for their packs.

  • Note 4 doesn't work as i tried to use mine as touchscreen for a 3D printer. The only way to do it would have been to solder a buck converter to two of the battery pins to make it think it had a charged battery connected.

  • "getting a run at it" often does work if slow and steady doesn't work (i.e the pulling vehicle doesn't have enough traction). But you need enough slack to get the pulling car moving.

This is never a good idea as straps and chains have no "give" so all that energy you're putting into the strap will be released instantly once it goes tight, which will impart the same amount of force as if you were crashing into one another at the same speed (possibly worse since cars have crumple zones to reduce impact forces). Many people have died doing this when the part they're attached to shears off and gets launched through the window of the opposing vehicle along with the strap/chain.

They make recovery ropes that are specifically designed for this purpose that act like a giant rubber band and spread this force out over several seconds so you can pull with more speed safely.

  • I'm extremely impressed by everyone's actions in the video. Normally people who are stuck think you need to spin the wheels at 100mph to get unstuck rather than maintaining traction by using very little throttle. People using straps or chains typically think you need to "get a run at it" and take up the slack by accelerating away at 30mph, only to have their bumper ripped off. Here, both drivers did an excellent job.

  • OP manages to capture the best pics of him too.

  • I'm fairly certain it was but can't recall for sure. The guy at Best Buy or Circuit City really did the hard sales pitch to convince him that it was worth the money and he'd definitely notice the difference. I recall making fun of him for it and his rebuttal was that it also came with a warranty so he could swap it out at some future date (since, you know, it's so common for HDMI cables to wear out from all the data traveling through them).

  • My friend paid $100 (roughly $150 today) for one of these cables around 2008/2009 when HDTVs were fairly new. $50 would be a bargain comparatively.
