He/him

  • You said what's healthy but that is so incredibly subjective I don't know why you'd even bother writing it

Maybe I’m fucking crazy but I’d say dietitians know enough to determine whether or not juice has a nutritional value similar to soda or not, ie, how healthy it is. Are you seriously so checked out that you think it’s not possible to tell if food is good to eat or not?

You could find a dietitian to say you shouldn't eat basically everything.

Are you sure you aren’t confusing dietitians and nutritionists?

  • The sugar in soda contains fructose (it is in fact 50% fructose). Soda with HFCS isn’t actually that much higher in fructose than plain sugar soda, ironically; the ‘high’ just means ‘higher than white sugar’.

  • I doubt it, making juice is annoying and you have a lot of apple mush to deal with.

  • I'm not really advocating for anything other than pointing out that your argument is inconsistent. Is it about the sugar or not?

I literally just explained to you why the sugar in an apple is not identical to the sugar in a serving of apple juice, if you don't want to acknowledge it I can't make you.

What about grapes? They're extremely high in sugar and relatively low in fiber.

Find me a dietitian that says grapes are bad for you 🤷‍♂️ Rules lawyering how biology works doesn't actually work, the soda is still worse for you than fruit even if you go "ah ah ah, but you both have sugar!!"

  • I have no idea what you’re trying to advocate for here, but a dietitian isn’t going to tell you that apple juice and an apple are the same, because they’re not; a single serving of apple juice isn’t even made from a single apple. Fruit is healthy to eat, juice is not a health drink. If you’re taxing for health it makes sense to tax the unhealthy things and not the healthy ones.

  • Because apples aren’t apple juice, metabolically or nutritionally. The fiber slows down how fast you absorb the sugar and it’s good for your gut.

  • ‘We should reduce sugar and sweetener consumption, let’s not tax this drink that’s almost pure sugar because it’s natural’ is asinine. Apple juice has virtually identical sugar content to a soda.

  • 100% fruit juices would remain exempt

Why?? Shit’s sugar. You’re not getting most of the nutritional benefit from juice, all the fiber has been removed.

  • Wow. When I read the headline I thought it had to be an exaggeration or complaint about poor game quality. Nope, literally forgot to add it.

  • Fuck yeah, muscadines! I wish they were readily available where I live now. Everything looks very tasty.

  • If your local library doesn't own a book scanner, any colleges near you may have one. You usually don't have to be a student to walk into the library, and the book scanners I've used don't require a login. YMMV on whether this is how it's set up where you are.

  • Barely a fraction as much! I would wager the amount it happens to me (rarely) has more to do with me looking like a short nerd, or it being a really crowded sidewalk or something. But the only time I experience that ‘I see you are there and I’m not getting out of the way’ walking towards you that I used to experience all the time pre-transition is when it’s someone that seems out to cause trouble or has some kind of chip on their shoulder.

  • Shit, now I’m self conscious about my nod reflexively being an up nod!

  • Oh damn, one of those pre-transition things I almost forgot about! That used to happen to me so often, and now when it does it sticks out as ‘wow, that dude was a prick’. It’s wild that nothing about me changed except how masculine other people read me and it basically just stopped happening.

  • Sometimes I’ll cross the street if it’s safe and won’t have to immediately recross to get where I’m going. If not I just keep walking and keep my eyes to myself, as long as you’re not being a staring creepass or looking her up and down you’re fine.

  • I’ve lost touch with people over the years, but the only person I’ve considered a friend that I actually dropped stole a phone from my younger sibling. I got it back and didn’t talk to them ever again.

  • Oh, it was somehow even more convoluted. If the light went to red we had to remain silent the rest of the lunch where we were, and THEN the next lunch was sitting in alphabetical order in complete silence. It might be extended to multiple lunches if people kept trying to talk.

There was one period of time when we had heavy rain, it lasted for what felt like weeks straight, and we weren’t allowed outside. We kind of collectively started going insane from lack of exercise (we had no indoor gym), and then we got multiple days of red light silent lunches.

  • This includes things that are mostly water, like uncracked raw eggs.

  • I mean, did the seller specifically tell you it wasn’t caused by the stairs? They might have just managed to drag themself to the living room before expiring!
