  • Yeah, she’s testing the weight to make sure it really is heavy and not a prop. Feeling it for herself, she then congratulates the lifter

It harkens back to very old strongman shows. Often they would have guest come up to try a weight (or pass the implement around the audience if possible, such as a metal rod they would later bend or a hot water bottle they would later inflate)

It’s actually kind of a current issue with powerlifting as a spectator sport as well. You can tell lifters are struggling and it’s very exciting when they fail a lift and 5 people need to step in to bail them out. But “300kg” is just a number to most people, it’s hard to really convey to onlookers what an insane amount of weight that actually is to have on your back at all, never mind to squat with

  • The explanation makes a lot more sense if you already understand what is being explained

  • Regardless of the fact that work has ground to a halt the CEO will continue to claim productivity has never been higher since implementing AI

  • I almost never encounter it anymore because I habitually just open a new tab for everything. A habit I started doing because encountering it made me so angry I almost swore off computers altogether

Super niche adjacent rage but shoutout to max-for-live developers who implement their Ableton plugins as a series of user actions so that the instant you touch the plugin it detonates your entire undo history

  • Semi monthly results in 24 events per year while biweekly events happen 26 times

  • Folks who become self-absorbed and preoccupied with their own comfort and convenience

the person who is counting the ways life did them wrong, using that as a justification to lick wounds and retreat from life, jaded and alone.

    You’re a poet.

But yeah, I’ve met plenty of people exactly like this. Honestly it’s just so unpleasant to be around, I would think everyone would be filled with the fear of ending up that way

  • That scenario could also be arranged!

  • Haha yeah it’s a lot, I aim for like 150g of protein every day for strength training. The block of tofu is like 50g and the edamame is like another 40 so it just makes every other meal way easier. I definitely wouldn’t recommend eating nothing but soy tho lol. I think regardless of what you pick you’d eventually get sick if you just ate one thing.

The rest of my diet mainly consists of a lot of different bags of frozen veggies. Pretty much cycle through every type my store offers, usually pan fried, or soups in the colder months.

Oatmeal and homemade bread, a few servings of fruit each day including frozen berries and dried fruit, and on the non vegan side I have eggs, cheese, and greek yogurt. Weekends I do more fresh veggie prep as well as have “fun” foods like ice cream or whatever.

It works great for me, admittedly a lot of soy but I think that particular neuroticism of mine is actually quite tame in context; most bodybuilders pretty much do the same thing but w/ chicken breast or lean ground beef

  • Not vegan per se but I eat a block of tofu a day as well as another several servings of roasted edamame most days. Like 6-8 servings per day on average

  • Funniest trial ever filmed, do yourself a favor a look up some clips

  • Tried looking it up, it’s so new that nobody who knows has made a post about it yet. Slow day at work so I’ll try and crack the case via wikipedia or whatever

Edit: alright so the spot really is freaky

Although the mountains are formed from ancient rocks more than 1 billion years old, geologically, the mountains are relatively young and were created during recent periods of glaciation. Because of this, the Adirondacks have been referred to as "new mountains from old rocks". It is theorized that there is a hotspot beneath the region, which causes continued uplift at the rate of 0.6 to 1.2 inches (1.5 to 3 cm) annually.

The Adirondack mountain range has such unusual characteristics compared to the area around it that it is divided into its own province within the Appalachian Highlands

Basically the mountains from that entire region formed around the same time from the same glacial event but these ones just randomly popped up much later and we really aren’t precisely sure why

  • Whoops! Big mistake buddy, you said something on the internet. Now we’re gonna fight! I miss balled mice. How ‘bout them apples? Nothing is as satisfying as cleaning the lint out of those things was

  • Well, that depends, are they also charging you a ludicrous sum of money each month? It would make me feel a lot more confident sharing my intimate details if they also required my credit card. The only thing that could set my mind more at ease would be extensive biometrics

  • They’ve been “cracking down on adblockers” for over a decade

  • Oh wow, yeah that sounds like some crazy mod abuse. Nothing beats volunteer contributors when it comes to drama haha

  • Oh interesting, may I ask how specialized those sources were? The first scenario that comes to mind is that perhaps they were known to be less than reputable, which could lead to a ban

  • In that situation it would be a kindness for you to take the specialized sources you’ve found and add them to articles, to save the next person a little trouble

  • Idk why we've reached the point where anyone saying they're anything but an atheist has to specify that they aren't a bigot

The main issue is that the cohort of people with megaphones broadcasting their spirituality is virtually entirely comprised of profiteers.

Like all such parasites they follow the pattern of establishing out groups for you to despise, simply because it drives engagement better. Same reason all major social media now attempts to shape you into a being of hatred and impulse. It keeps you stressed and activated so you jump at the opportunity when they offer to let you spend money to blow off some of the steam.

Bigotry as a phenomenon has many origins, but wherever it springs from it ultimately doubles as an inherently appealing strategy for those who wish wring dry their community.

At any rate, as we all sit here dying around the same poisoned watering hole, we see these profiteers dressing just like us while actively dumping the poison in. Ashamed, we feel compelled to proclaim, “I am not them! They only wear my clothes!”

Spirituality is an incredibly comfortable and practical “clothing” for many people. You’re absolutely correct in drawing attention to how bad it sucks that the people who embrace that comfort now feel pained to differentiate themselves from the abusers who pervert their fashion
