  • This situation was more complicated then that. The treatment in question was histiotripy. While it might be less invasive than traditional surgery, it isn't necessarily "better" when dealing with stage 4 cancer that failed to respond to surgery or chemotherapy. It just uses sound waves instead of scalpels.

    Realistically, this guy would have died soon regardless of the treatment. It's unlikely the technician would have been able to identify all the cancer after it's spread throughout his body. It's success depends on being able to target the majority of cancer cells, which isn't easy for Stage 4 cancer.

  • I have a feeling that the handful of pod casters propogating these theories understand thatthey are lying. As for their audience, most of them listen purely for entertainment and some of them are mentally ill.

    ...since about 1% of the population is schizophrenic, their are about 3 million people in the United States that might think this real.

  • It's not necessarily a waste of tax payer money for a country as small as Switzerland. Switzerland is about twice as large as New Jersey, the 4th smallest US state. It makes sense for them to provide high bandwidth to everyone since their banks and data centers are in the same physical area as their living districts.

  • I'm not necessarily against this. Right now, social media companies can knowingly target children with sophisticated conditioning techniques that can and will steer their cognitive development. Although they know for a fact that they are manipulating children, they hide behind plausible deniability.

    I don't like age verification, but I don't see an alternative. Between the robots and the advanced manipulation techniques, something has to give.

  • Yeah, I don't get it. If the two examples linked above are his most offensive content, then this is a pretty low bar to ban someone. If the target of the criticism was priests or bankers, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

    Giving a demographic special treatment can turn indifference into resentment; it is not a path towards acceptance or equality.

  • I don't know, man. I'm a Democrat because I support policies like marijuana legalization and free healthcare. The conflict in Iran is pretty low on my agenda. I wouldn't feel particularly betrayed if he was my elected official.

    I never understood bipartisanship. My opinions and beliefs span the entire political spectrum. It feels like people think that anything supported by Republicans must be anti-Democrat.

  • I'm pretty sure their purpose is to stall the public until the Republicans can win an election. If a wealthy person just happened to be born in a Democrat state, then that is the ticket they run on. I'd love to find out how many of them have family and friends that are all conservative.

  • I think it has to do with the fact that most of them were born in area surrounded by hostile adversaries who would wipe that out of existence given the first opportunity.

    Even if they spent the next fifty years being as nice as possible to the people around them, they would be conquered and assimilated if the US ever pulled their funding. They have two options: war or Exodus.

  • Aside from the hole in my tooth, I'm fine. I'm speaking as someone who is currently making the transition from a negligent dentist. Since losing a tooth is a cosmetic issue, failing to identify a problem that can be clearly seen on an x-ray for over a year doesn't meet the standard of harm necessary for consequences. The selective failure of recent filling might have happened regardless.

    ...at this point, I'd have been less upset if this dude groped me. I'd let Satan work on me if he was a competent dentist.

  • I think most Americans are apathetic about issues that don't effect our lifestyles. We don't necessarily like the actions of our country as a whole, but we limit our outrage to the internet and the ballot box.

  • Personally, I'd let my dentist grope me if he had a high enough success rate. I did some research a while ago, and a dentist whose work consistently fails will probably never lose his license. The patient won't be able to successfully sue them and there probably won't be an investigation. It's a "buyer beware" scenario.

  • I hate to tell you this, but cyanide is more nutritious than asbestos. The body could probably derive some energy from it's C-H bond, whereas asbestos is completely devoid of useful connections.
