  • ...this isn't true. He focused heavily on the working class with policies such as immigration and the reduction of overtime taxes.

    These are people that would have traditionally voted Democrat. He somehow managed to swing the election without marginalizing middle and upper class voters. This is surprising; the upper classes benefit disproportionately from increased immigration.

  • You are overconfident. The shock and awe on Reddit when Trump won last election was palpable. After months of reading Democrat puff pieces, the users were left dazed and confused. They didn't understand how it was physically possible.

    In truth, Trump was elected because he had popular policies. He has and is continuing to makes moves that help a large swathe of the public. Democrats need to pull to the center if they want to win. They need to avoid or counter the two issues that were the focus of Republican marketing spending.

  • Absolutely. A good study would account for confounding variables. Even the best surgeons make mistakes that lead to death; they are only human.

    ...society doesn't want to create a situation where surgeons refuse to operate for fear of making a mistake.

    If his patients are significantly more likely to die than on average, it is probably the surgeon's fault. If he has a pristine record, on the other hand, it was probably beyond his control.

  • What data? I have a hard time believing that people didn't increase their spending in response to increased disposable income. Food especially since food stamps could only be spent on food. If you post your source, I'll objectively review it.

    When demand outstrips supply, people began bidding. A 1% difference between supply and demand leads to a more than 1% change in prices.

    Any conclusions would also need to account for the impact of high unemployment benefits on domestic production. I sure as hell quit my job because of these benefits. It was a no-brainer; I more than quadrupled my disposable income overnight.

  • I don't know, man. I-a single adult -recieved over $700 in food stamps for well over a year. I ran out of my saved food stamps in 2025. I was also diagnosed with COVID over the phone and received over $5000 in unemployment per month. Since this income wasn't reflected in Medicaid's income requirements, I got free insurance as well.

    Giving this much money to low-income workers has a disproportionate impact on inflation. The skyrocketing prices of frozen meals and gourmet animal products, for example, was a direct result of the food stamps.

    It helped both me and the shareholders, but it came with a long-term cost. Everyone who had a job during the pandemic paid the price.

  • You're preaching to the choir. China does have a large middle and upper class, but this only because of its large overall population. Most people in China make less than $7500 per year. They don't have much leftover after buying food and rent.

    It would take a lot of Vietnamese, Cambodian, African, etc. laborers living in inhumane conditions to give the over 1 billion people in China a 1st world lifestyle. I think this is more or less the point of the Belt and Road initiative. They are competing with Europe and the United States to obtain a "low-income" workforce.

    ...on the bright side, AI might make it possible to remove slave labor from the equation. On the dark side, 3rd world countries that can't afford this technology will be pretty much fucked.

  • Realistically, Trump hasn't done much that negatively impacts my life. Due to a reduction of overtime tax and his executive order on marijuana, my life has marginally improved.

    The only thing the Democrats have done to improve my life in the last decade was to give me a bunch of money during the pandemic, but it's hard to say if that helped me in the long run. The resulting inflation was a pretty big catch.

  • If this is the reason you want a cell phone, your efforts are misplaced. Most of these sort of sex offenders are parents, relatives, or friends of the family. Those are the people your kid would need to record.

    You would be more likely to protect your child by making him wear a helmet along with his seatbelt or feeding him food that doesn't suck.

  • These are first world problems. Personally, I work for a few years before taking a a couple years off. I've did the math, and I need like 20-30 hours to maintain my standard of living. As long as I buy a house and save a few decades of taxes, I don't need much for a reasonable retirement. I'll probably buy a house big enough to turn part of it into an apartment.

    I see myself as Benjamin Button. I might as well take my retirement when I'm young. I'll probably get killed in a car accident or something.

  • I guess you can't control how other people perceive you. I try to be polite, but I have to retroactively edit these sort of comments to say the "correct" gender. I am neither pro or anti trans-i don't care-but it's hard to instinctively write she when you internally label someone as a he.

    This is an issue strictly on the internet. It's easier not to misgender someone in real life if the transition is convincing. I worked in the service industry, and I just avoided pronouns all together if the appearance was ambiguous. It was awkward, especially for the cis-gender people who can't control the way that they look.

    1st world countries live off of the work of China and 3rd world countries. If China becomes a 1st world country, we will all need to get our products from somewhere else. China has more people than Europe and America combined.

  • It just seems like the policies being revoked are more virtue signaling than anything else. Both parties are virtue signalling. It's meaningless rhetoric; nothing was achieved.

    You know what would be awesome for the gay community? Free healthcare, legal pot, a well-funded Social Security system. They benefit from the same things that benefit everyone else.

    As impactful and significant as these programs seem, revoking them doesn't sound like a Holocaust in the making. Are gay children so different from straight children that their care requires a training program?
