  • Find a hobby that you enjoy that is remotely social, then perform said hobby and comment on it with other people, after talking with the same person a bit ask their name, try not to jump the gun but after a few times of talking with them casually see if they want to do X hobby together then after doing the hobby together for a bit ask them to do something after the hobby one day like get food

    Then once you become friends try and meet their friends then kill the original person and steal all of their friends, you can then repeat this until you have enough friends or someone kills you

  • A paper from around a decade ago talked about using WiFi to identify key strokes so with large data models we have today I would assume they could get pretty good fidelity on a person. Maybe not enough for “beyond a reasonable doubt” but probably enough where your WiFi company is selling your data on what you do at home

  • Modern subs are almost all nuclear powered so less of the diesel smell (still some from lubricants) but nuclear subs can be underwater for weeks at a time so they have to scrub the air which is an imperfect process that leads to some funky smells

  • Imagine you owned a store, what seems better, having 40 customers come in and all of them buy or having 80 people come in and all use up time with a salesman and then only 45 people purchase. You would end up spending a much more significant amount of the sales revenue on the larger showroom and more staff. This isn’t my opinion this is why the American market has been prioritized, that and the fact that Americans spend more on cars per year

    California has different emissions requirements (not safety) but since they are a strict upgrade to the rest of the US (and comparable to other int markets) as long as you follow their requirements all cars in the US can be sold without any contradictory requirements

    A very common kpi used is to examine the success of a campaign in a per target demographic so having the much lower response rate is worse

  • If you are making an ad campaign, all of the US speaks the same language, generally has the same safety regulations, and a much larger percent of the people are your target ad personnel

    The EU is a cohesive unit for regulations but speak many different language and once you branch out of the EU to all of Europe you can see why there are huge advantages to advertising in the US.

    So no it’s not the absolute number that matters

    There are around 420m cars in Europe for the 730m people

    So while the actual amount of cars in all of Europe is more than the US the percent car ownership in a single country is insane

  • So why not keep time as a constant and if individual places want to change times they can do that

    Even just single states can have vastly different sunrise and sunset times and changing 300m people’s schedules so that a few people can have a few extra minutes of sun in the morning for part of the year seems absolutely ridiculous

    A local school district could very easily do a 1 hour shift as the sunrise gets later so that it properly aligns with their local school pickup times

  • It’s not a joke if you hit boron with a neutron it releases the energy in the form of an alpha particle which is just a helium atom.

    So take some boron-10 put it in a neutron flux and you get helium. This is being done in nearly every nuclear power plant in the world every second

    R134 was the “safe” refrigerant to replace R-12 because R12 is 11000x more potent of a ghg than co2

    There are some new refrigeration units that use R600 but the vast majority of refrigerators are still R134

    R600 being a highly flammable gas (it’s butane) has slowed its rollout a lot. Hence why a solid state non volatile refrigerant is still a cool development
