I’ll write something here later probably. In the meantime, hi to whoever’s reading this I hope you get a chance to enjoy something kind today :)

I enjoy tech, and tinkering, and like the other user here very much enjoy FOSS stuff.

Anything non-self-hosted IoT, or non-local AI models, or anything else privacy invading gets a big ol -10.

Being in IT though I do regularly keep a hammer nearby to remind my devices not to step out of line.

Also AI being used to “replace” real human work is bogus. I only use self-hosted AI and only as a toy and anything that comes out of it is not my work nor does it get shared anywhere. Pay and hire real people for serious things.

  • In “eXpOsUrE” and “MaRkEt ExPeRiEnCe”

100% this kid is getting just as fucked over as the rest of us, and because he’s young the corpos have a smidge more time to do so before he gets pissed off too.

  • Kinda reminds me of when Lizardbyte had a falling out with the Arch base re:Sunshine.

It sucks but I can understand considering how terminally online and entitled a lot of users are, plus there’s an AppImage for this still so hopefully that covers the gap.

  • I’ve answered this before, but -

I would sneeze or cough, and my oldest would act horribly offended and yell at me. Or she’d come up and demand attention because she’s 8 pounds of fluffy Velcro.

My second oldest would be the one cat to act offended at a bowl of wet food.

My boy would come running at the sound of a yogurt container opening or a whipped cream can being used.

My youngest girl would be the one to make eye contact with me and bolt away. She’d also be looking for her momma (my second oldest).

  • “But master! That would be a waste of my genius programming!”

  • Video games and “making things work”/tinkering.

Getting to learn what makes something tick and then making it tick (again, usually) or modifying it (mostly via software) is a lot of fun for me. I still haven’t quite gotten networking down yet but it’s my next thing to master since I want to set up my own server.

That and baking/feeding the people I love. Taking on a new baking challenge is especially fun. Cakes are my favorite to make. Candy making is on my bucket list as well.

  • I had a PS2 at seven and also did this, and stuck pencils in erasers and every other common childhood fidget/boredom activity.

I’ve also seen my younger family/friends do these things lol the common thread of humanity remains as long as you actually pay attention.

  • Hey internet friend, I don’t mind your concept but you’d probably have more luck posting this in relevant communities instead of in an unrelated comment section, else it can be seen as spam.

  • Alan Rickman

  • I had to root out stories for Val Kilmer because they were nowhere on my news apps when it happened - and that one I only caught due to a smart TV ad.

You make a solid point though. I should probably curate RSS feeds since Apple News has been garbage the past 1.5 years so I’ve avoided it, and the All feed here is constant US politics and hackernews articles.

  • I haven’t properly crafted in a while but I love to bake, and I used to draw and do (very beginner level) origami! Working on getting back into both, very slowly.

Absolute favorite retro game is hard, but I think it’s a toss up between Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite or Deus Ex 1 (and its fan game, “The Nameless Mod”).

  • Fair lol; I should have added a rhetorical tag to my comment.

I gotta go back to living under a rock on my retro games and craft hobbies and wait for my loved ones to tell me so I can preserve my sanity at this point

  • When the fuck am I going to stop learning about celebrity deaths via memes?!

    Edit: (above statement is rhetorical)

  • I know about this one! It was in Dave the Diver

  • Proneness to migraines.

Too much stress or noise can set off a constant -1 to -5 hit to stamina/health for up to 10 hours. Perception is up but Intelligence takes a dive. Also takes extra food to regain what was lost, but selection is limited due to nausea. Can be counteracted with coffee and acetaminophen if hit early enough, else it goes to Migraine+.

Migraine+ includes extra weakness to light and insomnia, meaning spell slots can’t be reset until the debuff wears off. Migraine+ can last up to two weeks.

  • I believe the person you’re responding to was making a joke.

  • You sound a lot like me. Most of my (admittedly small) room was packed into a giant box for over a year due to reasons beyond my control and once I was finally able to unpack it I had a meltdown because I had no actual space for anything.

My approach and my advice are different so take that as you will.

My approach: make a complaint list about all the things I couldn’t store properly and try to find some half assed furniture, then go from there. I got a small bookshelf, a set of plastic drawers and a storage mirror for my door (giant hanging mirror that is basically a jewelry box inside).

My suggestion: get some smaller, cheaper shelves/furniture/open (small!) baskets and see where stuff ends up naturally, then go from there. Eventually you’ll have more concrete complaints you can address and change as needed.

Starting from complete scratch is overwhelming, so throwing anything at a wall to see what sticks is better than nothing, at least from my own ADHD perspective.

And don’t be afraid to ask for in-person help if it’s available to you (friends, family etc.). Sounding boards/physical presence can also help massively.

  • Ohmygoodness she’s looking so grown up already! Beautiful baby, she’s got the perfect home 🤍🐱
