I’ll write something here later probably. In the meantime, hi to whoever’s reading this I hope you get a chance to enjoy something kind today :)

  • Corporate country music. Bo Burnham specifically wrote a song about it (lyrics link, since the song is technically a podcast episode w/ no accessibility).

Americana/folk, like Dolly Parton and Woody Guthrie are a far cry from the fox-news-to-a-melody garbage that gets put on country stations.

It’s the musical equivalent of John Wayne vs John Brown.

PS: Fun fact - Woody Guthrie wrote a scathing song about Fred Trump, so the war between the working class and that cursed name goes back at least a century.

  • My personal favorite is the lake from Wii Sports Resort. I used to spend hours just boating/flying around that area.

There’s also an island/oasis level in the PS1 game “Monsters Inc. Scream Team” that I quite enjoyed.

  • I’d be partly sad since one of my bio parents is pretty awesome, but most of my chosen family isn’t related to me anyhow so I guess it’s not too bad.

Echoing other commenters on the medical history thing for sure.

  • You’re back! Love seeing Miss Ruby 🖤 thanks for the ping 😄

  • Star Wars: Fighting space Nazis

Superman: protecting people from Lex Luthor; evil billionaire

Star Trek: Post scarcity society where all humans are treated as equals and nobody “gets” to be a billionaire (Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism)

Doctor Who: had a woman Doctor once

Marvel: “Evil is bad, how about let’s not genocide” (ignoring the billionaire worship w/ Iron Man)

X-Men: always been an allegory for LGBTQ+ and disabled folks

RATM: I mean, it’s in the name.

Starting to see a theme here hmm

  • He looks like a constipated toad banded bullfrog in that second picture

Edit: frogs are awesome, this dude is not.

  • They did him so dirty I’m still mad to be honest

  • Restricting free speech and lining their pockets, while taking away from our children, veterans, and retirees has been their game since time immemorial.

The Fox “News” pipeline seems to make people forget that Grandma can’t get her medications anymore and Uncle Billy who served in Iraq is denied his education because of these pricks.

  • Careful, South Dakota can put you in prison for that now.

  • TL:DR; do what works for you and don’t judge others for their connection choices, either.

For about the last ~6mos Lemmy has been my only social media, and for about 2 years before that it was Reddit. I didn’t get off Facebook and Instagram to feel superior, I did it because my mental health was spiraling downward like a bent Slinky on old stairs. I was chronically online since my early teens, so it wasn’t an easy pull either.

I don’t judge my loved ones for still being on those sites because it works for them, and I get my pop culture from them so it’s a win-win for us.

I’m still an online weirdo since I’m here on Lemmy, and I still fill the rest of my screen time with tech projects and video games. I’m no better than my peers, just different hobbies on occasion.

Finding your balance takes time, and it won’t always look the same depending on where you are in life. That’s okay! We’re messy, complicated things and trying to be “perfect” only adds stress.

Don’t be afraid to experiment in the meantime to find what feels “right” for you in your gut and mental well-being. You got this 🌼

  • Come back at it in a different mood, time, setting, etc. and run it against multiple people who you know won’t just coddle you about it if you’re really concerned.

Part of human psychology is coping with the world around us, not just learning about it. Our individual natures, moods and pasts will always color our experiences and that’s not necessarily a bad thing; the sooner you accept it’s okay to be human, the more authentically you can work with the quirks that come with it.

I do know personally I can be prone to overthinking and getting fuzzier in my logic when I’m tired, hungry, or overwhelmed. I also know it’s fixable.

On the flip side, I also have a history of trusting/getting anxious about bigger picture things based on precedent rather than imagined ideas (new things don’t bother me, but having to face certain known patterns stresses me to a very bad point).

I factor both of these things in when I get to an almost-crisis point. But at the end of the day, the human perspective is like a prism in water: multifaceted, fluid, and dependent on environment but also sometimes beautiful. :)

  • Can’t spell anarchy without arch 🏴

  • The cult of..origami?

  • That’s an intense game of roulette.

Will they accept the kiss, pull away/hiss/run, or swiftly smack you in the face?

  • Pickles will never voluntarily touch my plate, and when they do I push my plate to the nearest pickle person so I don’t have to remove it myself and get contaminated with the vinegar.

Sun dried tomatoes and the occasional kalamata olive I can tolerate. Artichoke hearts and roasted bell peppers are awesome.

  • …the soil? That’s where seeds/spores are planted and subsequently grow into trees, and where they get their nutrients from.

Unless you’re talking about the seeds themselves, which are kind of a “shell” from which they literally branch out, depending on the species.

  • They’re observant lil’ critters. Even the slightest twinge off and they’ll pick up on it fast.

My cats know I’m sick before I do more often than not.

    1. What if I use it on myself?
    2. Does the recipient have to love a person, or can we, say, make one for the environment and the wellbeing of all our fellow living things?
  • Using my phone helps me sleep.

I play a simple grid-based game (crosswords, sudoku) for about 15 minutes and before I realize it I’m out cold.

Every bit of “sleep hygiene” that gets condescended at me only makes my insomnia worse, save for the generalized concept of a routine.

More time in my room helps too, as opposed to less - unfamiliarity and performance anxiety creep up on me.

  • Healthcare. I’d get so much done and settled to be honest
