it uses a lot less energy since it runs on your home or company's infrastructure.
A CPU-cycle requires energy no matter where it is. The open source models may be more efficient, or you may distribute the power usage over a greater geographical area. But you're not using less energy because you're running the model at home.
Because of that, I predict that we're going to see a lot of financial hardship among AI companies.
I do like the idea that open source will kill tech giants.

That sucked so hard. Taught highschool age kids. We ended up doing attendance manually. As in: join the day's meeting, turn on your camera and show me that you're out of bed, clothed, and ready to learn.
Doesn't matter, we need to get rid of all these platforms. Pinging large groups of people shouldn't be this easy. Maybe get rid of internal email as well.
Want to contact somebody? write a note and have it delivered. I'd bet it'd be more efficient, when you need to limit your messages.
Just imagine how much calmer your day would be, if you wouldn't have to deal with "who ate my lunch?" or "there's a car with the headlights on at a carpark on the other side of campus" with the same urgency as actual directed communication.
Maybe I should start running ads on my jellyfin server. Something like "want unlimited bluey for a weekend? Clear and load the dishwasher twice this week"
Or "want +16 content? Start being an adult and use the toilet brush"
We had a bunch of cheapo creality printers on wheeled tables at work. Some of the printers did something similar, so the wobbling was my prime suspect. But there was no correlation between fail and placement. It was printer specific.
Turned out to be issues with the z-axis screw and stabilizers. A good cleaning and, I seem to remember, a new bushing, was all it took.

I dislike change. I know it's not a good argument, but I don't like change.
I don't have a lot against dark mode, on a phone. But...
Running an IDE or word processor in dark mode screams unprofessional to me. I work in a well lit office environment, during the day. In a bright office I struggle reading in dark mode.
Using dark mode because you "don't want to have your eyes scorched", is the argument of a hobbyist, working in their bedroom.
I like to view my end product on screen. I'm not printing documents in dark mode, and presentations are more easily viewable with a light background.
It's not an argument for or against dark mode, but dark mode seems like that time, back in the 90s, when people insisted on using a blue background for word processing. We're just going in circles on this.
