  • The bullshit isnt for you, its for the AI filter that handles intake before you read a single application. (And if your not using AI to filter, your getting spammed by AI applications because everyone else is playing that game) Applicants are trying to beat the machine, and when the requirements get stricter the applicants just use more AI to send out more applications. Its a vicious cycle that will only end when hiring managers filter with something that a machine can not do.

Dont even get started on the personal data collection of the job sites. Its the most soul crushing thing to be looking for a job right now, anything to make you stand out of a crowd is ignored, volume of applications and adherance to posted requirments are the only way to get a fleeting interaction with a human.

I feel like the solution either needs to go back to in person and paper ads or a personal website acts as your resume, anything other than what we have right now.

  • Correct, he hired the most qualified people and listened to them (eventually). Much less can be said about darth cheeto.

  • IT here so "customer service" but internally for a company, and yes I get this one from time to time. More often than its because someone failed their ID check and or forgot their security questions and they blow a gasket when we tell them to open a ticket by email or the portal.

Blah blah blah, do you know how busy I am, blah blah blah do you know who I am, blah blah blah...

Look, I dont care if your some security guard or the CEOs personal ass wiper. Resetting credentials is a critical function that the admins pawn off on us techs because users are insufferable and they dont want to deal with them most of the time. If you cant be bothered to do a little managment of your creds and keys, how the fuck do you still have a job. Get a password manager if its allowed but if we fail an audit because you wrote it down under your keyboard again... Well that problem is above my paygrade.

  • Yah... The timing of this is suspicious, stuff like this usually comes out of the woodwork almost immediatly (because you can just search through someones social media and find all sorts of dumb shit), if someone is holding onto it then they either made it up or witheld the info for timing/news cycle reasons, either case reduces the credibility of the "gossip".

Also, who cares, half the liches on capitol hill that need to remove were on Epstine Island... The bar for family values and puritanical whohash has been on the floor since the Clinton administration.

  • Of all technical professionals, IT people / sys-admins are consistently the most supersticious. There is a reason we put ramen on top of servers.

  • Dwarf Fortress

Throw money at the steam version or just got download the lazy noob pack (keyboard recomended for that one) and learn why it is the hardest game.

    Remember kids, Losing is fun!

  • I joking tell parents to get their kids into Warhammer 40K, Magic the Gathering or PC gaming, that way they wont be able to afford drugs.

  • Ted Danson's reaction to that scene is too perfect... That one hurts

  • But you see. Im going to call it that anyway, just to add more whimsy and dinosaur jokes to the world.

  • Idiocracy is one of the most unrealistic portrails of the US executive branch (the house of representin is spot on) President Dwayne Elezondo MtnDew Herbert Camacho is actually the best fictional president. He had a problem,

    • found the most qualified person to solve it.
    • listened to them (reluctantly) then.
    • didnt take much credit for it, once it was solved

No other president would have done any of those things... Perhaps Carter.

  • See... That the problem, the quote that best comes to mind is.

" The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.

To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.

To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job. "

    -Douglas Adams

  • Its 106 miles to Chicago, we have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigerettes, its dark and were wearing sunglasses.

  • Woz continues to be the good Steve.

  • The new AmEx cards are getting out of hand.

  • Between this and the Cardputer-zero, im very excited for the next-gen digital swiss army knives.

  • Full time Linux at home for gaming, home lab and services, supports enterprise Windows at work. The year of the linux desktop is almost upon us (really just waiting for the gabe-cube and the OS along with it), yes that how it be some times.

  • Depending on your location and labor laws, you need to go after them for stolen/lost wages. "We thought you agreed" is no excuse for wage theft and if thats not in writing and you have the time sheets for it, you may have a case if you have records.

If its in MA (just a guess because its a higher-ed job), their wage theft laws have teeth to the point I would have a new job lined up while you work with your lawyer.

  • Prince Arthas Menethil from Warcraft.

[Quietly sweeps WoW:Shadowlands under the rug]

Dudes villian arc is perfect, his fall is entierly of his own making. Playing as him in Warcraft 3, you follow his reasoning and by the time the corruption sets in, its far too late. In the expansions, you play as him in full BBEG mode. Lastly, WoW:Wrath of the Lich King had him as the capstone boss of one of the best expansions and 15 years of buildup.

And they never expanded on his character ever again...
