    In a day when the big three (golden arches, BK, and Wendys) have mostly priced themselves out of their own market. I make it a point to stop by every time im in a place that has one. The farthest one from California is just east of Nashville TN.

One of my former space nerds got a job and IIRC is actually a rental car lot manager, we taught him how to use spreadsheets well over 10 years ago so they could figure out how the games industry mechanics.

    2006 is the era when cars became complicated enough you needed more than basic wiring to repair them, for a car guy, that around where Ive seen them talk of the latest they would buy.

    I would also say 2017 is also around a good time for non-car people who are good with tech. This is around the time when the cars computer would manage the radio, inputs and a backup camera. If you wanted GPS on the screen, your phone would have to handle it, the car would have no sim card.

    Anything made after the plague, they are not far off for the level of tech and privacy concerns, just not all of these fratures are in a vehicle fresh from the dealers lot yet.

  • You can confirm through a bit of Google Fu, that that is the corner of the 2026-07-12 sports section of the Washington Post. However every copy of the image ive seen is grainy or low-res enough and Photoshop exists that I would also require video evidence before rejudge the situation.

  • For anything beyond document printing, I agree with you. But for this use case, the fact that the print head is disposable is a good call. Large plotter printers have dump trays and maintainence cycles to keep the ink liquid and moving, the parts are more expensive to replace.

    Because your only using the head and ink well independently, nothing is counting pages or stopping you from refilling it. Its the best of both sides of consumable parts.

  • Construction and vibrations caused by the generators disturb well water systems. Or if a main is close enough, heavy construction will settel the ground and break pipes.

    All the data center issues are caused by people and towns not classifying them as heavy industry. Do you want an aluminum foundry in your back yard? No, then same goes for a data center.

    And I cosplay as a sysadmin at home for fun. Would like to make the jump professionally, but being able to turn work off at home and not be on-call is too important.

    Disk rot is a real issue, but I can make ISOs from them and back them up with my current hardware. Records are all fun and a better decor item, but if data preservation is the goal, I need to be able to make my own copies.

  • A public holiday to not be at work and some light programming. All I want is to watch some fancy pants band play 1812 with the canons and im happy. I dont care much for the holiday itself, its just a day to mark the calendar. Not getting to do any of that this year... Its dangerously hot, I am working and im not watching the PBS programming from Washington out of spite.

    It looks like were past the worst of it today. The problem tomorrow is going to be the humidity. Modern heat pumps have to work harder when the water in the air cant absorb energy from the system.
