  • I'm kinda in this boat but I have a soft spot for anime that I grew up with in the 90s and early 2000's.

There's also some more recent stuff that's been generally OK, but I can never keep up with conversations about it because I'm just not in that sphere at all really.

Hit me with some Gen 1 Pokémon, Avatar: TLA or old Ghibli stuff and I'm waxing poetic instantly lol

  • Politics.

    Not interested in the slightest.

  • Likely inconvenienced a whole flight's worth of people for a stupid Strava post. This is also bogus because he couldn't have use GPS for this. The watch's accelerometer would be the only metric and those are wildly inconsistent on a good day.

    Cue the Picard facepalm.

  • Extol.

I've mentioned this band a few times recently.

As a metal fan, Christian Metal has always rubbed me the wrong way. It was either way too preachy and constantly proselytizing or it was just straight up bad music across the board. Often both.

Metal is founded on rebellion and speaking truth to power, not bowing down and licking a boot (something Nazi fucks forcing their way into metal scenes need to realize and fuck off - you're not welcome) so I always handwaved away Christian bands on that basis.

Well it turns out Extol is a shining light in that scene. Their lyrics can sometimes dampen the power but the delivery of the vocals usually keeps that at bay and the music is so immense that it doesn't even matter.

Their album 'Burial' is a bona fide ripper of an album. Unique riffing and melodic choices on top of an absolutely killer drummer. Their later albums are excellent too, but nothing in this world sounds like Burial. 10/10 album for me and in my top 3 of all time for sure.

  • The humans worth placing your faith in are not the ones calling the shots.

Humanity under capitalism is doomed. The only way we survive is if this AI bubble pops and burns capitalism to the ground with it.

    One can hope.

  • Just push them to darker parts of the internet why don't cha?

All this "for the kids" shit is directly at the expense of the kids.

  • I remember the part about the RFID chips in every person being the most shocking part as a kid. Honestly with smartphones and the modern internet, we're not really that far off from what was speculated on that topic.

The film is over indulgent claptrap but a broken clock is right twice a day or whatever.

  • No!

    Fire BIG. Big fire bad!

    Run away!

  • The Roman Forum. The Colosseum is cool but way overrated. The Forum is so huge you can easily spend multiple days just wandering around enjoying its history.

    10/10 would recommend.

  • 👋

They are so underrated. It's crazy.

  • I never hear anyone talk about it ever and it's one of my favorite games. I think it's a work of art, really. To me it's underrated.

  • Hyper Light Drifter for gaming.

Extol (Norway) for music, specifically the album "Burial".

  • Hannah Fry is great too. Becky Smethurst as well.

I approve of your list but Anton Petrov is a bit much for a 12 year old, I think. Kyle Hill gets a bit dark for a 12 year old sometimes.

It certainly doesn't hurt to just start off on the right foot with Carl Sagan and Cosmos.

  • The main difference between Luge and Skeleton (beyond the obvious) is that in Luge you launch and accelerate with your hands and arms. In Skeleton you do so with your legs. That's a big reason why they're both valid as olympic sports.

  • You gotta block what you don't wanna see or choose an instance that has similar values to you as they'll be defederated from a lot of shit you don't wanna see.

  • Your downsides make me think you work for a pretty shitty company. I don't work a second longer than scheduled ever. If I want to take a sick day I don't even tell them why. They don't care. If I go over my allocation they might ask what's up but that has never happened.

  • It's definitely not me. I don't use that shit for anything. I hope it stays down forever.

  • Huh, that's an interesting one. I'm glad I'm not the only one hearing something weird.
