  • I have tried to hear that instead of "Hot pickle!" for years and I just can't. This feels like another of of those blue dress/yanni things to me.

  • I heard "Hot pickle!" in a completely unrecognizable accent and have been confused ever since. Was it Mario that said that? Lakitu? Whose voice is that if not Mario's and if it is Mario... What the hell? Lol

He says it when you select a level to play.

  • We have fuel tanker trucks and rail cars already. Could we not run a similar arrangement with batteries on a truck or train car?

  • Similar story for my wife and I. 10 yrs of friendship before we started dating. I definitely wish we started sooner but I'm just glad to be where we're at now.

  • Likely WoW back in the vanilla/BC/WotLK days. The game say something like 2.5 months or so of game time so somewhere around 1,500hrs.

And although I hate to admit it, CoD was a big part of my teens. From CoD:MW to Black Ops I probably put in the same amount of time as WoW.

  • 18 is super young to be having a kid, but man it can be much, much worse than that.

  • A summary of what you need to know about the state of "business" in 2026.

  • Its not like there are zero uses for AI, its that the use cases they're trying to shove down our throats are the worst ones.

I'm a certified AI hater, but I still use it on occasion to help with spreadsheet formulas.

  • Prohibition of AI does indeed prevent Bandcamp's servers from being overwhelmed by the storage needs of slop "artists" and the gruel they call their "music".

I've been re-reading LOTR lately and I like to put on Middle-Earth ambience in the background. Do you have any idea how much LOTR themed ambient slop is on YouTube? There are channels with over 100 videos, each exactly a 3-hour slopfest of sounds with HD/4k resolution slop art playing on screen.

Considering the vast majority of real artists might put out 5 hours of music in their entire careers, why the hell would bandcamp want to host hundreds of hours of fake music from a single source and pay for all that storage?

AI is a plague upon humanity. Bandcamp is on the right side of history and I'm happy to have my music on their platform.

  • Major labels have a presence on there too though.

  • There's plenty of life-affirming news. You just gotta filter for it. There's whole communities dedicated to it. I strongly recommend curating social feeds. Keyword block lists are a godsend. There's no politics at all in my Youtube feed because those topics don't get my click.

  • I'm not the most prolific poster ever, but you'll notice I've not once posted anything about world news.

I also heavily curate my frontpage so as to not see any of this bullshit if possible. Some things slip through but my keyword block list is pretty robust.

I'm just trying to live without a firehose of anxiety inducing shit blasting me in the face every second of the day. Honestly, I'm getting close to shelving Lemmy like I did with all my other social media at this point. Lemmy's not bad, but I'm really starting to feel like it might be good to disconnect for a while.

  • You find world news interesting? For me that's the most boring subject anyone could possibly bring up.

"Oh, Trump's being a prick again? Didn't see that one coming. Oh, people are fighting and killing each other again? How surprising. We're still killing the planet and almost all the most prominent people in the world only care about stock prices? Shocker."

I'd rather discuss literally anything else.

  • They want their greasy tendrils all up in your PC's guts. Every bit of info flowing in your system can be monetized. All they care about is money and dominance and their "AI" in everyone's devices is their wet dream.

Cancer is preferable to tech bros as cancer doesn't know its killing the host. Tech bros know full well their actions are killing the planet and its inhabitants. Their actions are willfully vile and toxic; completely at odds with the needs of humanity.

Don't expect them to ever do the right thing for anyone but themselves.

  • Yup. A price that respects their user base. On that basis alone I have had (and will continue to have) no issue paying for another license if needed.

When I switched to Linux I just bought a new copy instead of figuring out how to transfer the license I had for my Windows PC because the Reaper team just straight up deserves the money.

  • Mainly just the satisfaction of supporting a project we like. IIRC, my Mom's PC is on the version they're sunsetting too. Pretty sure we're gonna need to update it anyway.

  • My mom loves Zorin OS! We're strongly considering the pro version now.

  • Rust is repairable unless the frame's structural integrity has been compromised. That much rust is an oddity, even in the rust belt. Many owners undercoat their vehicles which significantly prolongs the life of the vehicle.

If you're really against purchasing a modern car, as I am, you still have plenty of options.

A new car is going to cost you thousands anyway. Why not just invest that money in a car you already like?
